    Gotta be a tough job. Isn't the idea that you're there to help them al by showing the world their plight. You'll help them less by temporarily assisting that one individual you happened to come across.
    I don't think I could do it.

    I thought about this recently at a Steve McCurry exhibit. You are in war zones taking pictures of refugees and then going back home to a comfortable life -- you are building your reputation on their suffering -- what is the photojournalist's responsibility? This is an incredibly tough situation. As jm2e said, you have to rationalize it as bringing the news to a greater number of people. At the same time, how could you not do something to help? But then if you get too involved it hinders your primary responsibility to reveal the plight of the people to the rest of the world.

    No way I could ever do something like that. Some photographers cannot cope. Kevin Carter being a notable example.
