Thread: Email programs for Android phones, is there Outlook available?

So my trusty Crackberry is getting very long in the tooth and I am thinking of buying a new Samsung SIII. I really use a phone mostly for email and the odd photo and call. That said, I would love to be able to import all my Outlook folders from my lap top into a phone. Is that possible? If no, is there another email program similar to Outlook you would recommend? I am not a big gmail fan, as I use that platform for work and it doesn't allow me to copy and paste screen shots in gmail, as Outlook will and I don't really like how gmail formats a conversation string. I need to be able to make folders in the email program to store important emails I forward to clients over and over again. These are mostly pdfs and a few Excel or Word attachments that go with an email intro. I have previously had an HTC android touch screen phone I could not type for shit with. Any great typing programs too?

You'll want Touchdown for Android. Most companies on Outlook use it for Android phones. I use it for my outlook mail and I am pretty sure it has the functionality you are looking for.

I also use SwiftKey for my keyboard and really like it.

Are using an Exchange Server for your mail? Yep, if you want to sync all the stuff from your Server for Email then there are 2 3rd party packages out there. Nitrodesk Touchdown like mentioned above will do the mail folders, tasks, and calendar in a push format. It is a paid $20 app - one time purchase. They have a 30 day trial download that you start with and get set up to use the ActiveSync. While I have not used the Samsung email program on that new phone- it probably should work for mail only, but may not support the other items of tasks and calendar.
The other email package that I have not used but is also free is called K-9 Mail... supports IMAP, Pop3, and Exchange but not sure about the push and ActiveSync support.

Rshea, pretty sure it is not an Exchange Server for the business email account, as it is gmail. I also use a personnel acct that is a pop email account. I will follow phatty's suggestions for Touchdown and Swiftkey.

If you're getting the S3; use the native Android client. I use it on my Google Nexus phone and it's great. We have an IMAP server and it syncs all of my mail and folders.

For reference, we also have enterprises licenses for Touchdown, which I hated, incidentally. It was quite difficult to set up, though that could have been our own settings and not a Touchdown thing. Along those same lines, GOOD for Enterprise is something I used before our company was acquired. I much preferred it over Touchdown.

As for calendaring, the native Android email client does not sync or support that. I bought an app called CalDAV that syncs my calendar with my work and Google Calendar. It's money. $2.99, or so. Well worth it and a breeze to set up.

Use the native android mail app for all mail accounts. Free.

Then usr Business Calendar Free for your calendars. Free.

Both are excellent, intuitive, and effective.

K9 is alright. i personally didn't like it. if its a gmail setup, the native gmail app is good. i like the regular email app on android better than K9.

Just get a Windows Phone and have the real Outlook on your phone. I have an HTC Titan that is very solid. I will say some of the other apps, specifically Bing Maps vs. Google Maps, are not as good as the Droid but I like the system and was attracted initially for the same reason as you - easy integration with outlook, office, etc. Windows 7 on windows phone has actual office software for word, excel, powerpoint, and one note, which is nice if you use it, as it sounds you do. Easy to view and modify files.

Android can do all this and has better maps and navigation...all available for free.

I use the native "Mail" app for my work outlook email, seems fine.

I use the native gmail app for my gmail acct, seems fine.

Galaxy S3 says it's native client syncs Exchange.
I was under the impression they all did.
My friggin droid 2 does exchange/outlook sync with the native email app.
You can also disable the notification/sync for teh gmail client and enable imap access to your gmail account and be able to use the same client for all your accounts/calendars/contacts.
I wanna say I tried K9 and didn't like it, but that was a while ago, and maybe I never did.

Yeah, native exchange client is built into every android, I think.
If I were gonna get a new phone now, I'd get the Nexus. Can be had for free. It has the stock Android OS so you don't have to worry about other companies fucking it up with their shit. And you get all the newest updates first.
