Thread: What's your AT binding of choice?

Looking for some feedback for the upcoming winter. I excluded tech bindings on purpose.

This poll is flawed. I think that more than a few here will opt for Dynafiddles or PLUM. No one knows enough about the Salomon or Tyrolia (I would not trust the heel piece tour mode gizmo. Out of the ones listed, the FF is best for climb, and Baron/Duke is most stable for descent.

the only one of those bindings i have skied on is the baron and theyre a strong binding that can take a beating, you dont notice that they weigh alot until you go on longish tours and my dad used to ski on fritschi and said they were great just not too strong but i have researched all the bindings and in my opinion the marker baron is the best binding for AT for the price, as long as you use it mostly for slackcountry and small tours

So we've got 2 bright and shiny options for the fanboys and 3 dated pos. Any actual reviews of the technica yet? Non-hype for the Salomon?

Edit: I'm not buying either of the bright and shiny, now, because I'm sick of being a paying to be a guinea pig. Either of the two bright and shiny options might work in the future.

I'd buy tele bindings before I bought any of those listed.

I know how to use periods, I just felt like being lazy at the time i wrote that.

I've been on Dukes since gen 1 but thinking of giving the Guardian a go this year. One thing to note is the additional weight is more than I originally though vs. the Duke. 2960 grams vs. 2630 grams, which is roughly ~2/3 lbs extra per pair. I still like the build concept and design enough though and the stack height to give them a try. If they're more bomber (and potentially even climb better), i'll gladly pay for it with the extra weight.

Going with the ad hoc Dynafit and Onyx entry. COUNT IT!

I also have Tour F10 and think they (and F12) are viable options for non-tech. Consider including?

3) Out of the bindings I've actually skied, I'd take a Marker over a FF. Never even seen the Tyrolias or Guardians in person, so can't really weigh in there.

^^This. I can't judge them by their cool blue color. The real question is how does it ski tour. The Guardian may prove to be the best out of the class of binding you are talking about, but they still won't be better than dynafit/plum. They might be a better inbounds and crossover binding, but not a better touring binding. My vote is for the duke/baron. Not really any difference between the two. I've just been launched out of too many fritschis to vote for them, even if touring in them is easier, IMO you lose a lot in skiing.

I might buy the Guardian and I already have two sets of Dukes. I skied the Guardian for a couple hours and they tour OK and ski like an STH16. Personally I wouldn't tour on any of the bindings in the poll due to weight - but I do use them to lift ski in AT boots. Strangely Salomon/Atomic are only recommending the Guardian/Tracker be used with alpine soles or their own low profile AT soles, as the wrap-around toe arms can hang up on other brands, especially with tech inserts.

I saw the Guardian in person and they're really pretty. As such they got my vote.

But really I wouldn't buy any of these. I'm spoiled with my Dynafits. Once you go tech, you don't go back. I did one 20 minute slackcountry skin on Dukes this past season and said never again.

I skied the guardian last winter and of the listed options that's the one I would buy, hence my vote...

Pure touring?? Now that I do on plums.
