Any Car Camping near Steamboat Springs

I will be headed there this weekend and the hotel rates are ridiculous which was expected. Is there any good free camping close to Steamboat Springs. I have never been up there so I dont really have any idea as far as land marks. If you want to PM me instead of posting it up that is great too. If there is no free camping a forest service paid campground would work also but I dont really want to pay $30 a night for a tent spot at an RV Park.

    Thanks

Look into buffalo pass. Lots of campsites right of the road. Its a little out of the way but not far enough to rule out

Or go to Strawberry Hot Springs. Cheap cabins and different options, next to some really nice hot springs and reasonably close to town.

While not free about 30 minutes down the road is Yampa State Park. Nice area to camp for around 20 dollars.

In the summer Strawberry Hot Springs is accessible I believe. You might call and make sure but I drove up there in a toyota camry rental car a few years back.

Check the rules though, there's lots of them and you have to mail them a check and a reservation form to make a reservation so make sure to plan ahead.

you could for sure camp at strawberry, if they have sites left. otherwise, buff pass is national forest, so you can camp where you want. So is rabbit ears pass, where there are a bagillion places to camp. pretty easy, really.

For anyone riding the race my wife and I are providing sports medicine/ chiropractic care complimentary to riders and crew. Stop by and see us even if just to say hi. we will have the Alpine Chiropractic tent I would assume at the base.

They've been doing a ton of work on Buff Pass. You will be fine in a 2wd.
