WTB: Hooded Softshell with venting in size Large

I am in need of a size: Large, hooded softshell jacket with pit-zips (might consider no venting or other venting options)

Not looking for Black or Grey but will consider most any other color.

Condition: decent shape (a snag or small stain would be OK) the newer the better. However, as long as the "waterproofyness" (I know this is not a word, so you folks from Truckee shouldn't feel the need to correct it ) is still OK or at least recoverable with a treatment I would still be interested.

I am looking for something that can be burly, but will mostly use it for touring in the spring and pre-spring months with a puffy available...

If you don't have one for sale I'd still welcome some input on brands/models to search out.

Ibex had made some of their softshells with a hood; here's another slightly lighter option.

    http://shop.ibex.com/Apparel/Mens-Peak/Nomad-FZ-Hoody .

Keep an eye on their website or send them a question about what the winter offerings will be. The best softshell I've got is one of their climawool softshells from 5 years ago. I used it full time until one ice storm day I realized I wanted a hood. And I ski PNW.

on venting w/softshell: I've found that cloudveils and ibex softshells breathe well enough so that vents (that I really like on my goretex stuff) aren't needed.

Arcteryx Gamma MX Hoody would be ideal.

I've never owned any Arc'teryx but I've always coveted it from afar...$$$$

Is it as good as I think it is?

Is it worth the big price tag?

Anyone out there got one they're sick of? I mean you'd need to be REAL sick of it to get it into my price range....

It's good but I'd wait to find some on discount to make it worth the $. Ebay, steepandcheap and acteryx outlet can get you in the 20-30% off range, which is close to being a decent value.

To clarify - some stuff like the Atom SV hoody ($250) are worth retail imo. Not most items imo though.

    Yes, and Yes.

I've been waiting until Autumn to put up a couple more pieces of my stupid large Arc collection, but with what you're looking for, my Stinger in a orange kind of color would fits your needs (yes, in large). Softshell, Pit Zips, hood, some fuzzy insulation, Gore-tex.

I was figuring I'd get an easy $225, but as it's early money, I could go $200 + Paypal and ship. If you want pictures let me know.

However, with "Waterproof, touring and with a puffy available" requirements makes the Atom about the least desirable piece for the OP.

Gamma MX Hoody is a great jacket, but it does not have pit zips.

I have a Large Yellow FlyLow Higgins in excellent shape. PM if you're interested.

^^ this is a great jacket as well. But be warned it fits large compared to arc. I'm a large in arc and a medium or even a small in flylow. I have this years higgens in orange and love it.

^^^Well no...but, when open, the two breast pockets, and 2 waist pockets are mesh for breathability.

I have the Shavano jacket from Freeride Systems - a maggot-owned company -
    http://freeridesystems.bigcartel.com.../antero-jacket

It's thick material, burly for a softshell, with long pit zips. IMHO the sizing runs large, so unless you plan on layering a lot underneath a soft shell, consider one size smaller.

Huge hood, easily fits over a ski helmet.

I have a Cloudviel L red First Turn that I got from a mag on here. Yours for $60 shipped, MINT. (I never wore it, too big) Just take it to a good local seamstress/alteration shop, I had pit zips put in on my Pataguch Nano for $50 total. Worth every penny.
