    Unless it's fog and drizzle.

Edit: Weather does look perfect this weekend. Enjoy.

the venue cannot be beat, and so far there the weather has cooperated for SF standards.

Really not too excited about this years lineup though. Friday 2008 was the best day at outside lands so far in my opinion and ever topping it will be tough.

Not going to make it, but I am going to see Neil Young & Crazy Horse in South Lake the day before they play Outside Lands. I'll let ya know how that one goes.

I'll be there, as I live a few blocks from the park.

Semi-fail on this thread as it's been 5 posts and not a single link to the line-up: http://lineup.sfoutsidelands.com/

I tend to avoid festivals, but the presence of Bloc Party and Tame Impala and Sigur Ros and Antibalas is pretty awesome.

That said, the noticeable lack of rap is disheartening...

Don't forget The Kills, Explosions in the Sky, MSTRKRFT, Justice, Mimosa and any other number of people. I actually think it's a pretty solid lineup other than Metallica. The lack of rap is sad, but they chose to go electronic over them.

I was almost sold on going this year as the lineups in years past have been so good. Epic fail this year. Sigur Ros and Neil Young are the only two worth making a trip to go see, and they have NY playing with goddamned Crazy Horse who ruin NY's music IMO. Unless you live in the Bay Area I think this year is worth skipping.

    I mean seriously... Metallica?

A little weird, although they do have strong Bay Area ties (it's listed as a "hometown show" on their website).

If you think this years lineup is crappy, you either love rap and hip-hop exclusively, or don't listen to enough music, IMO. So there's no radiohead, big effing deal.

OSL is the mother of all clusterfucks. Took 6 hours to get on a shuttle bus after Pearl Jam a few years back. A lot of fun but a logistical nightmare.

Silly personal attacks over a music festival lineup aside, excluding a few good ones all I see is a who's who of washed up bands on one of their last tours, a bunch of formerly popular bands I saw 7 years ago when they were still producing decent music, some one hit wonders trying to make sales on their second albums and a few crappy "dubstep" light shows.

If it were 2006 this would have been a kick ass lineup, though.

While I have no intention of attending (I'm not a fan of large festivals that require one to stand out in the hot sun for hours on end or to frantically shuffle from stage to stage in an attempt to see the acts you wish to see), there's a number of acts on the bill that I've never heard of. For that I am totally stoked on the "listen" function they have which includes a track from each of the artists performing. Makes for a nice, eclectic mix tape.

For example, bands I'd never heard of, but liked the songs included on the Outsidelands site include:
    Washed Out
    Wallpaper.
    Zola Jesus
    White Denim
    The M Machine
    Father John Misty
    Electric Guest
    Caveman
    Yellow Ostrich

However, from their sounds, I'd probably much rather see these artists in a small venue.

Went for an average of 4-5 hours each afternoon into evening. Overall, we had a great time. We splurged for VIP tix and parking passes (wife's ankle can barely handle a show like this) so logistically it was a piece of cake for me. No traffic in or out. For each act we wanted to see, we would just get into the VIP area 20-30 mins early and we're basically 10 people deep behind the stage. It was cold, but wasn't bad until it got dark....that's when you break out your puffy and beanie. heh.

Metallica killed it. It sounded great, the pyros were sweet. done. No match.

Foo Fighters, Beck, Jack White weren't too bad but nothing too mind-blowing. Passion Pit sounded like garbage IMHO.

Franz Ferdinand, Bloc Party, and Justice were my close 2nds behind Metallica.

I couldn't stay for the Skrillex light show, but all in all with the great food and beverages, it was a great way to spend the weekend in the Arctic.

Add some more Metal, techno and drum & bass and I'd go again next year.

glad to hear about Bloc Party. I've always dug them and am glad they got back together. Looking forward to a potential tour in the Fall/Winter...
