Good, just ordered a pair. What shoes are you using them with? Looking to replace my stiff soled xc shoes with something softer and more trail friendly.

I picked them up awhile ago, and just got 5.10 Maltese Falcon shoes. I ride flats in the woods, but put them on for my commute today and liked them. Much more solid connection than when I used to ride Crank Bros Acids with Specialized Tahoe shoes.
No pedal/shoe interference going on. These pedals were up on chainlove not long ago for like $30.

I have some entry level XC shoes actually. They work fine with stiff soled shoes. Or at least with my PI Selects, or wtf ever they are. They're kinda meh. I just think the larger platform has more control, and is more knee friendly for my weird body. Weight was a pretty negligible increase over the 520s ande the feeling is much more substantial and secure, even with the same worn in cleats.
Was thinking about something like the Tahoe when I need another shoe. Something that doesn't look like soccer cleats for retards but is narrow and stiff. No longer stuck.

I've got the XT version of these, and finally looked the other day to see if the "platform" was doing anything. Soles don't even come close. It's probably a different story with flexy "AM/DH" shoes but it's dead weight with XC shoes. I'm considering taking a dremel to them (or swapping them with my commuter, where I use softer shoes).

It doesn't feel wider? To me my 530's feel wider and more substantial, and it will be awesome if/when I get some rubber bottom shoes. Was thinking these, but they may not be stiff/narrow enough. I'm only a C.
edit to add that it's also easier to get started and clip in again after stopping going up or downhill.Last edited by stuckathuntermtn; 07-20-2012 at 07:05 PM.

My shoes have a little "mini-platform" adjacent to the cleat that pushes firm against the pedal. I have skinny feet and have no problems getting back in/on my pedals because I do it dozens of times every day.

Yeah, I went out and clicked a shoe in just to look at it. Obviously, the sloping part of the cage isn't touching the shoes, but something about it just feels more substantial. IDK.

Ok, got a couple of rides on the m530s now. Gotta say I like em a lot! Very worthwhile upgrade from the m520s. So much easier to just hop on and click into.
Also with the platform and soft soled boots you can get away with pedaling through nasty bits without actually clicking in. Makes getting going again after putting a foot down much easier, almost like using flats. Been using them with some cheap shimano mt-51s with good results.

Anyone riding 530s with 5.10 Hellcats or PI shoes, or specialized tahoe, etc?

more stupid navel gazing (Hi, rideit!)
Anyone use these. They look purpose built for the trail pedals, but damn that volume+ shit.
Anyone on the Rime with trail pedals? (saw the Blister review)
5.10's definitely not stiff enough. One of the local shops actually brought some of those in locally, but neither of the other 2 I just mentioned have been, I don't think. No longer stuck.
