Gotta go with dfinn although it looks overly processed to me (sidenote: my opinion doesn't count). Still it's a really cool shot.

I think dfinn's is the best photo, but Solskier nails the theme the best. Tough choice.

Lots of great shots. This was a hard one to pick a favorite. Solskier's oozed sweltering heat.

    Agreed.

That was the primary reason I asked Tap if he would extend the contest. To me it didn't seem like enough entries really fit the theme that well.

It was a tough choice between SolSkier and Time2Climb for me. I went with Time2climb though because the thunderheads are really cool.

There is very little post processing that was done with that image.

I liked Splitters shot due to the composition, and particularly, the guys expression in the shot. But a bunch of great entries.

I don't think Dfinns looks overprocessed at all... a bit "hot" in the middle of the fireworks but that's sort of the point isn't it lol.

Thanks. Mine's a bit of a reach admittedly. But it was a slow comp and swimming kinda fit... My favorite little part is my wife and son (the dude is her brother) on the left-side of the background with no clue what is about to hit 'em...

I went for time2climb's. Sol's fit the theme really well but t2c's is a pretty photo and and still fits the subject well. If the theme was "hot" rather than "hot/heat", Sol's would fit better. But "heat" is very much a part of t2c's photo. The HDR feels a smidge over the top, but a big print would probably mitigate that. Great comp, great colors, interesting cloud.

I wonder if more people are chiming in with why they voted for who because it's an open poll?

Sunset was hitting the bottom layer of cloud and the multiple exposure was to get around some noise issues I was getting with a single exposure in the dark areas. I'm going to try a redo based on your feedback though to tune it down a bit to see how it looks. I think those greyish tones are coming more from the clarity slider than the exposure blend. Color in the cloud is accurate except that grey tone, never even noticed it until now. Thanks for mentioning it.

I think it looks great. It has a really nice color palette. For me, the multiple exposure feel shows up in the middle area with the tracks having a slightly surrealistic feel. I don't know if you could use a GND tool and boost the contrast on the bottom half.

I don't think it really needs it. I would probably compare the two takes side by side and I could see myself going with this one. Nothing seems cartoonish.

I think you crushed that shot. I'd be stoked if it were mine. I'd print it big and put it in a show.

The lens flare + yellow tint makes solskier's shot for me.

I like splitter's but for some distractions -- the towel and racquet-thingy in the foreground + the brother-in-law's head cut off (realize it was a spur of the moment shot, so can't do much).

dfinn's is technically very good, but it doesn't bring hot/heat to my mind when I see it -- it's my personal bias since sitting by the lake at night here in the high country even in the summer can be a bit chilly.

What Fuzz said pretty much. All Solskier's pic misses is a cat on the roof.

time2climb was my second choice. Does anyone else feel that pic might be even better with some cropping to focus on the biggest thunderhead?

I want to vote for solskier's shot, but I'm too distracted by feeling like the whole thing is leaning to the left. That might be true level, but the shingle line tells my brain that it's not.

t2c's pic seems a bit soft all around.

I voted for iggyskier because his pic is the one I'd enjoy looking at repeatedly if it was on display somewhere.

They're all way better pics than I could have come up with.

Thanks...full res pic is pretty sharp, I have a bad habit of not sharpening enough for downsized web photos. I sharpen, it looks over sharpened so I bump it back a bit, upload to web and then view and it's softer than it looked each time. Gets me almost every time but it's good to hear as eventually it will sink in.

I have a few other shots from different areas of the thunderheads zoomed in tighter but I tried a crop of the posted one and it's too clutered at the bottom IMO.

Looks like Solskiers run away with the lead on this one.
