WTF! Brake mounting issue
dfinn hooked me up with some Elixir 5s I want to put on my son's bike. (thanks, dfinn, brakes look good, price was very fair). Fork has post mount. Elixir manual says to mount directly for 160mm rotors. Bike has crappy rotors, Promax, which I think is a low end Avid brand name, but they're supposed to be 160 mm, and lots of life left, so I planned to leave them for now. Mounted directly, the rotor contacts the body of the caliper, wheel won't turn. Do I just shim these out with washers? Is the rotor actually bigger than 160 (I can't seem to find my caliper at the moment)? Or is there some adapter that Avid has failed to mention in their user manual?

Avid calipers all need the cps washer sets. 'direct' means with washers but not adapters. You got cps washers?

You're good, flowtron. That is indeed the problem.
How hard are these to find? Got several very good local shops, think anyone's likely to have some in stock?

They'll prolly have them I bet.
There's nothing better than sliding down snow and flying through the air.

Thank you all, gents. You've helped me avoid disappointing a young rider.
