    Big K.R.I.T. son!

Heavy rotation for lazy summer evenings and laidback goodness.

Big K.R.I.T. reps the 3rd Coast (aka Mississippi/The South) and in a few short years has taken the Southern rap mantle by the horns (in many ways he wrested the scepter from fellow Mississippian David Banner and rivals Outkast in terms of intricate, intelligent, well-crafted Southern rap). Belying his youthful countenance, K.R.I.T. drops albums, a sorely lost art in rap circles. His releases are deeply immersive affairs chock full of slinky beats and languid verbal utterance that feel as if they were crafted for long play as opposed to fast-forwarding to hear the hit single.

His latest full-length (and first bona fide studio album--as opposed to mix tapes), Live From The Underground is simply sublime.

In hindsight I prolly shoulda started this thread off with some FREE downloads of K.R.I.T.'s music.

While I have been seriously vibing on his latest release, Live From The Underground (it was the OST for my recent patch skiing adventure with Vets: http://www.tetongravity.com/forums/s...t-Lola-7-11-12), I am also a HUGE fan of his earlier release, ReturnOf4Eva. As with LFTUG, RO4E is an actual album, a cohesive sonic experience that flows tightly from start to finish (excellent late night headphone experience). Thankfully, you can still cop it for free via K.R.I.T.'s site (in case you missed the link the first time around--repetition is a benchmark rhetorical device, often used to great effect in rap):

You can also score 4EvaNADay, which is also solid (but nowhere near as tight as either ReturnOf4Eva or Live From The Underground, imho).

Regardless, I'm sprung on this kid as he does his own production, has a keen ear for nuance and texture, and has a solid verbal flow. He is able to bounce from pimp struttin' to introspective radiancy with the flick of his tongue, which, as with the decline of actual albums in the rap genre, is all too rare with the brunt of MCs these days.

Super tweak on the classic "Funky Worm" swirl mixed with excellent use of the rhetorical device of repetition make this a summer banger par excellance.

Haven't listened to much of his stuff but I caught a verse of his on this track off Phonte's newest solo album. I'll check him out
