This video has been bugging me for a while......

I know its old and has been all over the net for years now. Anyway, every time I see it I get so fucking confused. Why? Just why?

Was he so pissed at his slow speed that he just said fuck it and sends it into the trees. Did he lose both brakes AND his ability to lay it down?

This video hurts my brain. There has got to be an explanation.

Looks like he was straddling the top tube without good feet position on the ground. Me thinks his brakes were shitty and the momentum carried him into the tree.

I think it's steeper than it looks, he was pretty well fatigued from the preceding section, that sandy shit seemed to leave him basically out of control but keeping his speed down, as soon as he started unweighting the bike by putting his feet down he lost most of the breaking power since no more weight on tires. Just like skiing, it looks like one of those times when committing to a fall would be safer than trying to ride it out.

This. That loose dry loose dirt wasn't helping traction much either

But give him props for launching between those trees instead of faceplanting into one of them - that takes Madd skillz yo

And you can hear him whining. People who whine usually end up failing.

Once you give up hope of a recovery and cede that you are no longer in control, bad things happen.

I have been training using videos of the radest dudes flying down chutes and couloirs to improve my mind-sphincter coordination.

Shit, I'm with WG. I watched that a few times and could not figure it out. It must be way steeper than it looks. Seat to high? It also looks like his hands are tied to the bars. Hope the kid was ok, he ate it hard. I saw my bids wife do the same thing on a small dirtbike. She panicked and couldnt let go of the throttle as the bike dragged her for 30 feet.

Watch how out of control the chick with the g-string is when she runs down to save him. Makes it look pretty steep in there.
It's all good though, since they're British. Tough bastards, them.

Seems like once he was basically completely stopped around 0:15, he would have been wise to completely regroup and make sure he was in balance and got off to a good start before he went anywhere again. Instead he just sorta kept trying to go a little at a time and it just snowballed. Straddling the top tube is never a good position.
