Because it was taken over by GOP party operatives. The tea party had a chance to do some good inside of the GOP, but it was quickly taken over by Rove and his like.
The only faction of the Tea party that is still left is the extreme social conservatives, and that is NOT what we need. We need liberty and justice for all. Extreme social conservatism is the opposite of that.

Anybody remember when Pat Buchanan and the Reform Party got Federal funding ?

Also, in 2008 Barack Obama was the first candidate to ever turn down Federal funding for the general election.

I'm so fucking sick of this ridiculous argument made every 4 years by people afraid to vote FOR a candidate actually qualified, rather than AGAINST some supposed lessor of 2 evils. If not now, when? You're doing nothing but perpetuating the status quo. If 4, 8 or even 20 years ago, we'd started voting for non Dems & Reps, we'd actually be electing them by now. Is it a vote of conscience or a horse race? Are you wagering and therefore have a financial interest in voting for the winner?
Dems & Reps have been running the show our entire lives, they are solely responsible for the mess this country is in.
This time it's far too important to keep doing the same stupid shit that got us into this situation."The mind, once expanded to the dimensions of larger ideas, never returns to its original size."

my family tree is full of dumbass rednecks and arrogant upper middle class pricks and not one of them has ever been stupid enough to go libertarian. my kid will know more than they did and more than i do before he finishes high school. i expect him to be honest with himself about relationships between people and power.
and since libertarians are as intellectually dishonest and self-serving a bunch as there is, i don't see it happening. but even if it does, my head won't explode. i've watched an entire population live in cognitive dissonance most of my life. i trust he will find his own way. i didn't have a kid to brainwash him into being a younger version of me."We sit together, the mountain and I, until only the mountain remains." -Li Po
