What's wrong with the 5" 29er? Santa Cruz, kona, and niner have successful bikes in this category.

Nothing is wrong with it; only the touting it as the second coming/best thing since sliced bread is wrong. Sure, it's likely to be a great bike. For some people.

Shredding along the relatively smooth trails of the Bend (done by a pro who could waste most of us while riding a tricycle) area is not the way to sell this product if you're trying to sell it as the trail bike to kill all other trail bikes. I'm sure it will kick all sorts of ass, relative to other 5" 29er trail bikes on the market regardless, but...

    Carry on.

omg, I just watched the video.
Is that the kind of music they listen to in Taiwan?
Is that the kind of music Taiwanese bicycle manufacturers think cyclists listen to?
    fucking painful.
Bike looks rad, but that music made we want to smash it, and anyone/thing that had anything to do with that video, then smash my bike, then shoot myself in the face with a shotgun.

He also took 37th(mid pack) at the last XC world cup with A LOT of climbing on a singlespeed and wearing baggies. He's the fucking mang.

    yup! heard about that!

yeah, confirmed that he won on the prototype TranceX 29'er (at least I'm pretty sure that is what this bike is). 38T 1x10

Too bad the color scheme is disgusting... Hopefully they sell frames separate.

    yeah, color scheme's not great.
For some reason it's spec'd with a 120mm fork, too. Can the f32 be spaced to 140?

Agreed...Christ, those color schemes are ugly. AC's prototype in flat black looks killer, the production models?..look like they belong on the rack at Walmart. They did the same thing when the 29'er Anthem was being released....all the prototypes that Decker was racing and winning on were sweet, muted all blacked out. They they came out with the production chrome and blue colorways that are just hideous. If I got one, I'd want to strip the paint off and get it done all black by some local powder coater or something.

Hopefully they sell the frame solo. Powder coat and put a 140mm on it. Thats my current gameplan.

Any idea if it has ISCG mounts?

I'll be honest. It looks cool, but with the new colors, and now that the initial hype and speculation is over, there's any number of competing frames that are as good or better. It better be cheap.

So my LBS is supposed to have a few in stock this week or next. Anybody had a chance to ride one yet? Still not sure about giving up the 26" for this bike, but it's worth a test ride for me at least.

Rode one around the parking lot for a while. Pretty sweet. The chain stays are SUPER short, wheelie machine. I am waiting for my 0 to come in, then I can get a better ride report.

My local Giant dealer got a Demo TranceX 29er in about a week ago and I had the opportunity to get my grubby hands on for this past weekend.

It was the second tier down from the top, TranceX 1...but the guys in my shop made a few KEY changes to it. I was the second guy to spend any time on this bike, and the first guy was one of the shop guys and he made the following changes before handing it over to me: 1) He replaced the stock Fox 32 120mm fork, with a Fox 34 140mm fork (he said he thought the original fork was enough for his riding style (really fast SuperD/Enduro guy), and that the thicker 34mm stanchions of the 34 added quite a bit of extra stiffness that you could feel when pushing hard (at the trade off of weight obviously), and 2) The stock Giant wheels were ditched for a set of light and stiff carbon Easton EC90 XC wheelset, then the stock rubber was replaced with some WTB WeirWolf LT 2.5's both front and rear and set-up tubeless. 3) the rear shock was replaced with the Fox Float FIT CTD that is found on the top-end bike.

The rest of the bike was pretty much stock: X9 and X7 mix drivetrain (2x10), and a mix of Giant house brand parts (i.e. Giant contact low-rise 730mm bars), the Giant Contact seat dropper post, oh and the original stem was swapped for a 70mm stem (don't know the length of the original, but it was longer). Anyway, this bike was setup to shred. Original saddle was replaced for a WTB Volt. Brakes were Avid 7's (I think).

Size was a medium, and it weighed in at 28.88 lbs on the shop scale.

It definitely did shred. I took it 3 seperate rides (Fri, Sat, & Sun). My Friday ride consisted of just an hour on the little local trails and fireroads around my neighborhood to dial in the fit and reach of all the levers before the longer rides. I immediately felt at home on it, and didn't need to change anything except for the seatpost height. The 140mm fork did seem a little tall, but the stem was slammed all the way down, so this helped a lot. If this bike were my own I'd probably use a flat bar though to get even just a smidge lower (if the stock 120mm fork were on, I might not feel that way). First impressions were: 1) damn this thing pedals really well 2) and holy crap it climbs much better than I thought (actually got a Strava KOM on a small local climb that is STEEP).

my saturday ride was a long-ish one. It was only about 25 miles, but it was a 3.5 hour ride so I got to spend alot of time on the bike. Descending was awesome. It shreds. And I didn't get any rear end flex that I could detect (I used to own an Intense 6.6 and holy crap that rear end was a wet noodle...this bike, nothing. Not sure if much of that has to do with the stiff carbon wheels that were on this though). And it pedaled great...I love Maestro suspension, and with the CTD shock in the back you can really dial in the damping. I pretty only used the 'climb' mode and 'descent' mode and didn't bother much with the 'trail' mode. Heck even on the climbs I think I had it in 'descend' mode quite a bit. On extended climbs, i would reach down and lock out the fork though, and on really steep puncher climbs the front did want to wander a bit, but I think the 70mm stem was a tad bit short for me (I'd probably toss on an 80 or 90mm)

Sunday's ride included one of the more techy DH oriented trails near me, and this bike helped me shave minutes off my previous best times (according to Strava). Regardless of that, it was just plain damn FUN.

I was sad to give the bike back, and I think I'm going to own one in the near future. I'd probably get the frameset, and build her up to my liking. Not sure if I'd build it up with the 140mm fork, as the majority of the trails that I ride wouldn't need I think, but was DAMN fun with that bigger fork on their, will be a tough choice. I'd also ditch those stock Avid brakes for some XT's probably...hated them.

haha..wow, considering you are the one who started this thread, I'm surprised you bought a RIP without at least throwing a leg over the Trance?

Well i got a bonus that was just enough for a rip frame and i got the impression from my lbs they would only be selling complete trances...

Anyway, really happy with the rip9. Best descending trail bike i have been on. Sounds like the trance is a better climber though.
