Cheers to the trail crew at Northstar Livewire has been awesome!

I know a bunch of peeps have been talking smack about northstar this season. Comments like Vail is not going to make improvements till next season. Here is my take, Hi haters the only trails like Livewire maintained twice a day with lift access are 100's of miles away. I say cheers to the trail crew at the star for keeping things growing. For you haters out there wake up and smell the coffee if you go ride the star for a day this creates more capitol for improvements. Here is a link to video of livewire unfortunately left camera in 1080 mode from my vacation on maui.

I've been riding there the past few days. Definitely enjoying myself. Given the dirt they have to work with and the traffic livewire sees it seems like they are keeping it in awesome shape.

Just look at any of the other (all the other?) unmaintained trails to see the difference.

I'm quite caffinated and know for a fact that that statement is mostly bullshit.
STRAVA: Enabling dorks everywhere to get trails shut down........ all for the sake of a race on the internet.

Does anybody know what the hell was going on at Northstar this weekend?

The upper mountain lifts (e.g. 95% of the trails) have been closed since Wednesday. When I spoke to somebody from Northstar, he said it was because of the rain last Tuesday/Wednesday. This seems odd to me. It didn't rain that much, the rest of Tahoe seems as dry as ever, and if it did rain, there are a number of trails that I suspect would still be rideable. Anyhow, I suspect shenanigans.

I rode N* on Friday. The amount of trail closures triggered my skepticism. Then I actually got on the mountain, and Yep some of the trails were massively hammered by the rain that week. Big-ass erosion channels in places, areas where hudge amounts of duff were deposited on the trail by the rain, etc.

However boondocks was in the best condition I've seen it all summer.

So the upper mountain was open on Friday? Strange. Like I mentioned, everything else I've ridden in Tahoe recently seemed (sadly) unaffected by the rain. If I'm gonna take off my cynic's hat and put on my optimist's hat, I'm hoping that they've taken this opportunity to improve some of the trails.

    Mea Culpa:

Rode Northstar on Saturday and had a blast. They've actually done a pretty good job of improving a number of trials not named Livewire (the top of Sticks N' Stones and middle part of Boondocks jump to mind) this year. And Gypsy did appear to be seriously eroded. I still don't understand how a little rain was able to wreck Northstar but seemingly not affect the rest of Tahoe, but I guess that's what happened.

We live quite close to N* and we got drenched in that storm. Saturday morning our family went to the village-the creek beside mountain run was running at the top of its banks. So, yes they got way more rain than the rest of Tahoe.

Looks like some fun trails, will have to check it out if I ever get to the Tahoe area in the summer.
