I'm at school at UNR. And I've skied China Peak. Different name now, right? I hit some good days and snaked some rowdy lines from whiny pussies over there.

First year I was here (2010-2011) in Reno I learned this: Mt. Rose got buried and was empty during the week. I learned to stay away on Weekends. I skied at Squaw/Alpine on weekends.

I've skied Squaw/Alpine ever since because the college pass + terrain is unbeatable. If I lived in South Reno I would still grab a Mt Rose pass, but I'm closer to Squaw where I am anyway. For those of you that haven't heard, Mt. Rose pass is $199 until Oct 1 for college students.

I got the feeling that Northstar is a gaper resort just because everyone who told me to go there was from Las Vegas.

I'll probably end up at Rose but I'm tempted to get the Alpine/Squaw pass, but I hear Mt Rose is less crowded, is this true? because that's what I'll base a lot of my decision on.
If china peak is where you were learned/grew up, like me, you will love any of the suggestions given. I grew up on Pine Ridge and skied there newly every weekend until I left for college. Rose does have wind, so does Alpine and both are more of a chill vibe and Alpine has more options for side country. They done call it Squallywood for nothing its a totally different scene there but I like it for that sometimes when the conditions are not stellar any where and we want to do the food and wine thing. Northstar is great if your into mellow trees and groomers, but Homewood is most like China Peak. Small and wet snow often with no crowds at all, if its storming pow to lake level you all but get the place to your self.
Drink to remember not to forget!
