    the CANYONS pov

got to ride the canyons bike park on my way back to colorado and had a pretty darn good time, minus the destructo fall i took from clipping a pedal while trying to pedal through a corner of flagstone.
although the runs are really short, they are built well and super fun. not too sure why they dont build trails to the bottom that are worthwhile, you do runs on an upper lift that seems under 1000' vert. and when i rode all the way down it was one of the most frustrating trails ever; would recommend taking the gondy down instead of doing Holly, it was singletrack, but had a bunch of waterbars on crack, like 2ft step up logs and rocks that were not possible to hit smooth or with any flow.
anyways, once i got speed down on stuff it felt like it was built great. but it took a few overshoots that hurt. . . .
Kicks ASS there is finally some lift access in UT!!!!

I heard that Hollys will be fixed soon. Is Dark Hollow the new trail they just put in?

I hope they fix hollys, its a ton of vert and could be a fun DH type trail.
Dark Hollow is new but was only open for the section i rode, it is supposed to go up to the top of that little connector lift SHORTCUT or something.

I have been on the phone alot concerning Holly's. I looked in the mirror and decided I didn't want to see Scar or the Colony Sucks Switch Backs repeated, so I needed to make my voice heard this time.

The parks and rec took over the management. They then had people getting run over as they hike up the trail. In order to try and slow people down, they created the travisty that now is the lower part of that trail. My point is that this has just pushed the down hillers off of the canyons into Sun Peak. I have been hit once and my friend was hit while hiking up sun peak.

I think the ultimate answer is to have a designated downhill trail built, and that it shouldn't be Holly's. I would picture something dropping down from where mid mountain hits the road at the top of Holly's. Unfortunately, I don't think this is in the budget for Parks and Rec or Mountain Trails. I also think Talisker won't pick up this cost as it doesn't sell ground at the Colonies. I know the people at Parks and Rec are frustrated at the situation. I won't pass on their comments, as I don't think it helps get the right people to the table to reach a resolution. I will say that in my experience the people at Mountain Trails and Parks and Rec are exceptional.

Holly's is an abortion now. They need to either re-vamp Insurgent and put some features in, or just build a new directional DH-only trail so we can avoid the hikers and vice versa.

Dark Hollow will run from the top of Shortcut back down into the Red Pine area. Walked it with one of the builders a few weeks ago and it's gonna be sick. Unfortunately it still doesn't get us to the bottom of the resort, which is issue numero uno right now.

Their efforts to rewrite history are funny. But at the core, no other resort would every make the primary trail they send hikers up, the primary trail they bring bikes down. Now that they have entered the bike park game, they need to figure out a safe way to get you guys back to the chair. Seriously, The bikes you guys are blasting through that park with have tires and suspensions better than the motorcycles I grew up enduroing on.

While Parks and Rec has destroyed a great trail, they are in a no win situation.

It's a massive pain in the ass to get there on my DH rig, but i'll be heading over to Ambush from now on until they get something figured out. Still a fun ride down despite being kinda flat, so people won't have to worry about me maching down and moving them over.

Waitaminute, Canyons management specifically tells hikers to go up Holly's? For christ's sake, why would they tell them that and not Rosebud/Rob's? That's a much nicer hike IMO. Further proof that management there spends most of its time snorting bath salts.
