that is a fall fish, a kind of chub, largest of the minnow family. They love cold water as well and actively feed in it. They are a direct competitor to any salmonid species. They can save the day on slow hot fishing days since they eat exactly what trout eat. But I know some guides and anglers alike who just leave them on the bank to die. I have seen and caught them upwards up 20"+ on dry flies and nymphs. They burp when caught and are slimy as fuck.

Keep em in the water. I was just saying some folks regard them as garbage fish. They are a great fight when you get a big one. I would not eat one unless breaded and deep fried.
I had a huge one 20"+ break my 5 x and take my bugger after a good fight and a nice launch out of the water in a fast riffle last week.
