4 of 5 Supervisors on the board think ranching is the only economic engine in the county and likely will vote that way. Any public input that opens their eyes to the fact that Bunny Flat access brings in tourism will help. Please send a note to these 4 supes that need enlightenment:

for what it's worth, here's the quick email I put together. Feel free to copy/paste!

To whom it may concern,

It came to my attention today that you are considering not plowing Everitt Memorial Highway due to budget shortfalls. As a backcountry skier who visits the South side of Mt. Shasta at least a few times per year, I’d be devastated if this happened!

The winter accessibility afforded by Bunny Flat is very rare, and inspires me to drive down to California from Central Oregon to climb and ski the mountain without snowmobiles or a night sleeping on the snow. While I am there, I eat in restaurants, shop in stores, and buy gasoline. I know there are thousands in my position. It would be devastating to your local economy to take away winter access to Bunny Flat.

I’d like to see you come up with creative solutions to fund the plowing, as I fully understand the economic situation in California. I’d definitely pay for the privilege of driving up there. How about parking fees? Fund raisers? Volunteers? Corporate sponsors? Please make sure you’ve exhausted all the possibilities before making this terrible decision.

Siskiyou County realizes the benefits of you and others visiting our area. However, funding for Everitt Memorial Highway snow removal is dependent on the reauthorization of Secure Rural Schools Act. SRS provides Siskiyou County with 25% of our Road Budget. I encourage you to write to Senators Feinstein and Boxer, and Congressional members to support the reauthorization of SRS emphasizing the benefit to your interests in Siskiyou County. It is pending in Congress now.

Siskiyou County and other counties requiring snow removal operations of state road systems, are also requesting Governor Brown to terminate his proposal for Caltrans to eliminate snow removal equipment from it's inventory. It will have an even far greater affect to accessing, traveling through, Siskiyou County on HWY 89, HWY 96, HWY 3, HWY 97 and I-5. We could use your help in convincing Governor Brown of the consequences of his proposal.

Whoa!! Jerry's proposing to cut snow removal equipment from the state budget/inventory?!?!? Will they rent it? Contract out the entire service?? Obviously they can't simply drop snow removal from the big trans-Sierra passes ..... or can they??

Please note, the County receives $230,000.00 a year from the Klamath Hydro Electric facilities. Siskiyou County can not afford to loose this revenue, nor the emission free power that they generate for a proposal that lacks scientific integrity.
