Wow, what a day. Tour blown to pieces. Sagan outsprinting "pure" sprinters.

Nice sprint! Sagan is amazing, considering he has no lead out help (other than camping on Griepel's wheel) and today had to dodge Van Hummel.

Danielson looked awful sitting on the deck with all that skin missing from that shoulder. Give him props for surviving as long as he did with a separation.

What caused that wreck at the end?

Edit - that wasn't Van Hummel with the busted chain. My bad.

Team Garmin is starting to look like last year's Radio Shack team.

I read he had a dislocated shoulder... Most people can barely walk when that happens to them. I can't imagine how much pain trying to sprint must have been.

Danielson crashes hard with an already separated shoulder. That hurts from 6000 miles away...

Garmin will have to "look for stage wins". That's TDF code for "we are completed screwed and will take whatever we can get."

Dave Z in a TT win is about the only realistic shot they have at anything. Maybe put him in a break away to try and win the mountain jersey?
If Ryder isn't too beat up, he could try for the spotty jersey ( or stage wins ) as well.

Ryder: large hematoma/bruised upper leg; they'll be monitoring the developments this evening/night.

Poels, apparently both spleen and kidney ruptured, 3 broken ribs and bruised lungs. I'm amazed he was actually able to get back on his bike and do 10km before finally giving up.

Erviti abandons with deep wound in his right leg (with loss of muscle mass); he needs to undergo surgery

    Tommy D:

Freire broken rib and punctured lung

Astarloza abandoned with a broken elbow, Txurruka may have a broken collarbone

Taaramae rode 12km on a flat rear to get within the 3km puncture range.

Finish for tomorrow, any climbers that aren't banged up are going to have to go with only 2 more mountain top finishes after this.

ICE - Thanks for keeping the really gruesome stuff off of this thread. Raspberries and bruises are fine, but dislocated, broken and missing crap is not good. Let's make a rule that we can link it but not post it. Thanks.

Just read Greg Henderson's and Greipel's twitter feeds. Both have big time bruises and road rash, but neither have broken bones or damage like that. Griepel also has some stitches in his thumb. No mention of dislocations so I'm assuming that didn't happen.

Happy that their injuries were relatively minor. OTOH, I feel really bad for guys like Danielson, Freire, Poels, Erviti, Astraloza and Verdugo. Those are some heinous, painful injuries!

Fuck that...these guys are badass. If somebody's going to abandon, I'd like to know why.

No doubt they're bad ass ... but no one wants to see an unexpected compound fracture or a badly deformed shoulder. Go to cyclingnews if you want the nitty gritty.

Sucks Ryder is out of contention. Was hoping to see him contend. I liked the post-race F Schleck interview. Not a fan but stupid questions deserve smart ass answers. "Why would I be frustrated, I just wrecked."

Mad props to Chris Froome today - tows Wiggins to the top then still has enough to take the stage.

Unfortunate that Cadel was all alone at the end. TJ losing it when it got steep seemed pretty consistent with what I've seen from him so far this year, I was honestly a little surprised when it sounded like BMC was expecting him to lead Evans all the way up to the finish.. looks like he ended up losing about 2.5 minutes in the final few k.

** Edit.. is he still best young rider? I saw the yellow and polka dots cross the podium, but no mention of white or green?

*** Found it. Looks like he lost his jersey to Rein Taaramae, who also took his 4th spot in the GC.

I didn't realize that team UK Postal was in this race. That effort from Rogers, Porte, and Froome raised my eyebrows more than just a little.

Edit: TJ isn't white anymore ...

1 Rein Taaramae (Est) Cofidis, Le Credit En Ligne 34:21:52
2 Tejay Van Garderen (USA) BMC Racing Team 0:02:37
    3 Tony Gallopin (Fra) RadioShack-Nissan 0:02:41
    4 Thibaut Pinot (Fra) FDJ-Big Mat 0:03:35
5 Gorka Izaguirre Insausti (Spa) Euskaltel - Euskadi 0:03:38

^^^Sky built their team around Wiggo, with some strong climbers. Part of the reason that Cav has little help in the sprints.

IIRC Evans found himself without teammates half way up climbs last year too.

Tom Danielson's tweet after after yesterday's crash

Well, now two separated shoulders and now the right is hors category. I have no skin head to toe and brused everywhere.
    And his bike

    I don't think that's gonna buff out...

Strong ride from Taaramae. I never imagined he'd hit that echelon of GCers. He can TT really well to boot. Also props to Fabian honoring the yellow jersey with a top 20 spot.

But how about Sky, I don't think I've seen that strong of team since....Postal? I agree with Huck, definitively raises some eyebrows, but pretty much true to form from the Dauphine. Mick/Porte/Froome/Wiggo all placed in the top ten, with Mick and Wiggo on the podium with Froome 19 seconds from making it a sweep. But when those guys are doing hard pulls at the front and still beating the other top climbers to the top?? We'll see if defending the jersey will put a dent in them...otherwise this thing is over.

Hated to see Valverde and Van Den Broeck getting mechanicals before the climb. Their tours are practically over. Bad days by Samu, Deni, the rabo boys, and the radioshack big boys. I think Gallopin was pacing Frank at some point. That's pretty sad. It will be interesting to see how those two teams handle the rest of the race.

Tomorrow is a big KoM day.

I had the same thought about the disco train dishing out the pain. It looks like Sky & BMC have done a good job sheltering their captains. They both looked good (cadel's lack of help notwithstanding).

I'm excited for wiggins - this should be a good battle with Cadel.

Yeah how about that? If I had remembered that Sagan still got jersey points I would've made it in the top 10 for the whole thing.
