Crested Butte?
Looking for some Beta on riding in Crested Butte. Heading down Thursday for a wedding with probably 2 days to ride. Worth it to haul the DH bike for the lifts? Seems like there is a ton of trail access from town?

Depends on how much you want to ride your DH bike. There's some fun lift access, 4 trails worth doing on a DH bike.
IMO trail bike will serve you better in CB for two days. Lots of access right from town. Will sometimes add a bit of road mileage but who doesn't love that?

Thanks. Looks like it's a race weekend so that may limit the mtn. even more? My trail bike could handle some lift access if need be so I may just bring that and call it good. Any rec's on good trails close to town? One for the wife and I to ride maybe? Something we could shuttle to access alpine terrain?

There is a MSC race there this weekend, so the DH bike scene will be a cluster. I'd suggest bringing the trail bike. Such sick riding to be had...I've only ever scratched the surface, cuz I'm usually only one of those tards standing in lift line on race weekend.

well......yes the trail bike scene is epic and there is a MSC race there this weekend, but 4-7 on Friday is free lift service. so, what difference does it make if it is a shit show (which it will be) if you can ride some fairly legit DH for free?
otherwise, so much sick riding. second for the 14erskiers list, which will tell you what you need to know for trails. endless shit right by town.

Buy goldenboy and goneskiing beers and ask them to take you up green lake.

Yup, just saw the free lift access Friday night so that's a no-brainer. The more I research the more vast the riding seems. Could do a ride Saturday so if any CB mags are up for it beers are on me!

I have to work saturday, so can't ride with you. In addition to the races, it's fat tire bike week, so the trails will be packed like no other weekend. So... I'd find an obscure ride or join em- Saturday's expert group ride is reno-flag-bear-doctor's which is hard to beat. $40 gets you a shuttle and a guide. http://www.cbchamber.com/uploads/2/1...ation_form.pdf

Probably do a ride sometime saturday. Block and Tackle to Waterfall Creek maybe? Or 409.5-402?

It's on my list that is linked here, but generally from town you would ride the highway, up cement creek, up walrod, and up another couple of trails to 409.5. And then you'd have to be crazy not to ride strand or strand bonus or farris. Then back to town via brush creek or if you still have energy, upper to Tony's. Great ride, top 5 in my book.

If you get up early enough you could get a 401 ride in Sat before most people get going. There will be plenty of hung over people from the Chainless.
Walrod through Waterfall area might be good. A little less traveled by most that come into town. We did some early season trail work back toward Waterfall cutoff so hopefully it's riding well. Hartman's may not be all that busy with so many up in CB.
Working the Fat Tire 40 on Sat but hoping to get a ride in somewhere on Sun if you are still around.

My buddy and I will be doing a 6 to 8 hour epic up to Crystal Peak or nearby on Saturday. Anyone willing can join.
Sunday doing 403 to 401 early. The bonus is I get to guide two hot girls and they don't mind me getting ahead. I like the behind view also
Again anyone willing to join let me know.

GoldenBoy- with 409.5, what's the best way to ride it if I need to park at the Brush Creek TH? Should I ride up Strand to Farris Creek and then come down 409.5 before doing the rest of Strand Hill?

No, I would ride down to the highway from your parking in Brush creek and still ride it as I described.. it's the best way. Going up 409 from Brush creek isn't much fun and will likely take longer than the CB south way, which is much more scenic and better, IMO. 409 will certainly get you to the top of 409.5, though.

OK. Maybe I'll just get dropped off down in CB South and ride back to town via 409.5 and Strand. Thanks.
