Zion National Park beta
Ive read fishing is spotty in Zion but that there are fishing opportunities in some parts of the canyon. My inlaws now live somewhat close to Zion NP. I'm headed there for the last week in July.
Is it worth me bringing my rod? Are there other options I don't know about?
Thanks

Can't say I know anything about fishing in Zion, but fishing's not really the point there. I do know the Virgin is troutless. Floods too often.
Bring your gear though, and drive northeast to Dixie NF. Find Mammoth Creek, Panguitch Lake and Creek. And there's a few more little creeks and small lakes in around the Markagunt Plateau and the Tushar Mts.
How far are you willing to drive and how much time do you have? I know a few other spots.

I'll be in the area for a week. Not sure how much actual alone time I'll have or access to transportation for that matter. Thanks for the info though. I've been to Zion before but it was a long time ago, before I really did any fishing. Info says the upper reaches of the Virgin river do hold trout....but not in great numbers.

Getting to the Angel's Landing should be your #1 priority at Zion NP. In July, you'll want to be starting at first light and carrying a bare minimum of 2 quarts of water as the trail is on the west side of the canyon and heats up early. One of the best hiking trails in the national park system, I think. Unless vertigo is a problem because the Angel's Landing trail is Exposed with a capital E! The NPS would never build a trail like that today. It was made in an era before modern Americans devolved into a bunch of fat pussies looking to blame someone else when they get hurt.
I have come for you my child and the gift I bring is murder.
God won't hear your prayer, he's listening to SLAYER!
