Belated Alta season TR, again.
Well similar to last year I'm late getting a season TR out, or maybe I purposely do that because shots of winter in mid June carry a bit more weight imo.
here's a recap of year #1 in UT I spent at the Snowpine during 2010-2011
http://www.tetongravity.com/forums/s...season-at-Alta
I fell into the helmet cam trap. I got a Contour hd and have been pretty happy with the quality of video it captures.
2011-12 I worked at the Alodge. It's a good place to work, I recommend it. I moved in pretty late, but didn't miss anything due to lack of coverage.

I held of on buying pass until February for a number of reasons; one of them being a newly acquired Dynafit setup due in large part to SFB. He hooked me up yet again with some old bro lhasas that were well broken in so contact with rocks wasn't too painful.

Despite the low snow good skiing was still attainable

And on the days with bad skiing, the sunset made up for it.

It was a happy New Year. The pig Approves

Certain easily reached stashes remained stashed for my use

The first storm came in around MLK. Some pre-storm wind

an imminent storm produced good vibes

The storm produced:
1. Avalanches

The pics are from a report I submitted to UAC

2. Good skiing, albeit low angle- photog Will Haas

The Emmas were bare 2 days prior to this tour

It quickly improved photog Will Haas

And the storm cleared out leaving things the way they should have been all along

Fabs breaking trail. next photos by Will Haas

Paj loving life

Fabs rippin

It was truly a blessed day, all the way to the end

The recurring theme for the year:

Some Classic lines were still doable at times.

still a ways to go

The vis closed out and knocked out any pic opportunities.
In Mid March we got another epic storm

Making Rocky Pt seem like a good idea

B Frame

The next day we headed up Red Baldy and skied this. It was a little warm skinning up to say the least pics by non-mag buddy Fabs

The Scenery never gets old up there

Tyfalk and I were able to ski the E face of the broads twins. It was without a doubt the biggest line I've ever skied. Conditions were a little scratchy, but still a great descent. Apologies for the low quality contour frame grab

On April 1st Tyfalk, myself, and Fabs went up timp to ski the Grunge
Headlamp start

and we made it

Ty and Fabs were able to ski down in the awesome chalky pow that was in the couloir, I had to down climb because my boots were fucked and I didn't find out until the top. It sucked, very very badly. I was just glad to get out of there without incident
April had a few small surprise storms that freshened things up very nicely
Bill, Ty, Fabs, and myself went up and linked the Hallway and Old Growth Couloirs. Photog: Bill Haas
Heading into the Hallway

Well played sir.
This goes well with the anti-vegan thread!

We're certainly not a blues band in any kind of purest sense, but to me Rock and Roll has always had it's roots in that tradition.

Tasty, love Utah and the other white meat
I need to go to Utah.
Utah?
Yeah, Utah. It's wedged in between Wyoming and Nevada. You've seen pictures of it, right?

Coming from Atlanta and being a devoted skier stuck in the south for 16 years before enlightenment made me look at a low snow year differently. A low snow year in my mind is 20" of shit NC snow and WROD everyday of the year. 400" in a season? Yea 600"+ is better, but we made do just fine.

Paj it was a pleasure to meet you and spend time hanging out with such a rad maggot! I enjoyed our tour on your birthday and the many other days of laughs we shared during our encounters in LCC. Hope to see you back next year, you are always welcome in this house!
Nothing was funnier than to see a ski racing downhill without a rider, only to tackle it and find out it belonged to my bro, Paj, who had a marker/duke insta-tour eject-o moment. Classic!

^ Thanks for the words and it was great meeting you too. That day when Marker duked all over me and my ski needlessly ejected could have been bad. I had to be dressed to work in the dining room 10 minutes from that moment, but I saw you right there and knew you had my back. I'll definitely be back a couple times next year, but I need to finish school so it won't be a season long deal. I won't forget the last day we were hanging out and you hooked me up with some edibles that sent me into a tail spiral!
