sad news, I was up on heliotrope on friday looking at the CH thinking it looked like a great day to ski it, clearly I was wrong.
As an aside, why do news articles always use the word "killed"? The way I read it, it needlessly personifies the mountain and makes it sound like the skier was a victim of a plot or something. "Died" seems much more benign and accurate.
I'm thinking of his ski partners and family now.

Damn. That sucks. Pushing limits and conditions can result in death. That line is no joke. Condolences to family and friends.

Seems a sad spring on Cascade Volcanos this year. Gives one pause.

I was up in Bellingham last week for a try at a Baker ski but went rock climbing instead when a storm became inclement. I
saw this headline and freaked out in case it was one of my friends making another go at it. Thankfully it wasn't but I am very sorry for those who did know this Keith of Seattle.
Shred in Peace, vibes to the family and friends

This hits me hard as I randomly carpooled up to Rainier with him just a month ago. We chatted for hours about life and our futures, such an amazing guy.

Hey Kyle, thoughts are with you man. It's one of those things (whatever those things are). Could be me, you, anyone who is adventurous in the least. I know it's not much consolation but sadly with age comes the burden of friends and acquaintances dying doing what they love (and also just dying). Life is for the living, go get it!
Damn, that wasn't much of a pep talk was it...We own it!

Yes, as is typical, the initial media account was apparently wrong, although at least a correction has now been published:

UPDATE: Family Says Doctor Killed on Baker Did Not Ski Off Cliff
Dr. Keith Hardy, who practiced at Kirkland's Evergreen Sport & Spine Center, was killed in the accident on Friday.
UPDATE, June 19, 1:30 p.m.: A source close to the family of Dr. Keith Hardy, killed in a skiing accident on Mount Baker Friday, tells Kirkland Patch the family would like to clarify the circumstances of the incident.
Hardy, a physician at Kirkland's Evergreen Sport and and Spine Center, fell off the Coleman Glacier Headwall while skiing down after climbing to the summit of 10,781-foot Baker. Some media reports have said that he skied off the headwall, but according to the family, members of the party say he had fallen while skiing above the headwall and could not arrest his slide.
Hardy was an experienced climber and skier who took the necessary safety precautions in his outdoors adventures, the family says. For those stuck in the Northeast, follow my NE Rando Race Series and check out my avalanche course. A tough last week for the Cascades with two experienced dudes dead by standard accidents. Gives you a bit of a reality check; Gary said it right: could be any of us.
I was supposed to be climbing Baker Wed/Thurs, but we bailed on the weather/avi conditions. A guy on our group dropped south to solo Hood and was one of the first on the scene to the fallen climber there.
Vibes to the families and friends. Safe travels in the PNW to all!
