Thread: WTB: 3wt Fly Rod

I'm looking for a good, and reasonable 3wt rod - hopefully in a 7'7" length. Whatcha got lying around?

It's a bit shorter than what you're looking for (5'9"), and is definitely not a rod suited for all purposes, but I recently picked up a Cabela\\\'s 3wt glass rod and honest to god, this thing kicks ass on the small streams here in VT. Love love love the action and feel of this rod, the more I play with it the more I live it.

A surprisingly good price pointed rod is the Redington CT (376-4). At the $149.95 price point, it performs nicely. It has a moderate action with a quick recovery. It is very accurate close in. Even though it is made primarily as a dry fly rod, it can throw light nymph rigs and streamers.

Oh yea, forgot to mention, that Cabela's rod is only $100, even more reason for it kicking ass!

I think the classic trout and Orvis clearwater are 2 very nice budget trout sticks. The Clearwater was even designed by a maggot! If you need any help locating one pm me.

But so long as we're talking reasonably priced new rods: I love my TFO 7'6" 3wt. Outstanding at its price point ($150?) and very respectable even next to much spendier rods.

Thanks for the replies guys! Was originally going to go the used route but all of these are right within my budget right now so that perfect. Ill let you know what I get and hopefully have some pics of its labors soon enough.

Might wanna check for USED/Individual-built St.Croix Ultras on eBay... Was their top line(or next below) back a modulus-generation ago. Very responsive rod @lightweight. Either USED or individual-built = <$$$
I picked up an 8' #5wt on eBay for just over $120 back in 2010.

Buying custom/individual built rods = pain in the ass to warranty.
You pay the warranty fee to get the new blank piece and then pay to have it rebuilt or rebuilding yourself pretty much offsets the cost difference of a factory rod.
