Headhunters (aka Hodejegerne) - Norwegian thriller
The Scandinavians have been making some really great looking and intriguing films for quite some time that sadly tend to get overlooked abroad (albeit with the exception of Let The Right One In and the Dragon trilogy). The sparse landscape, cold climates, and isolated nature of Scandinavia in general tend to come out in the cinematography and make for engaging endeavors. I feel about the recent rush of Scandinavian genre films (Horror, Thrillers) much in the same way I felt about Hong Kong cinema back in the late '80s and early '90s: they are working with small budgets and thus end up finding creativity in simpler ways (i.e. story, cinematography, etc.). I wish they had wider release stateside, as I still enjoy seeing films, especially foreign ones, on the big screen as opposed to streaming them on my 'puter.
At any rate, I stumbled upon this one earlier in the year and just found out it's playing San Francisco, so I'm gonna check it out.
From the trailer, alone, it looks promising:
"Man, we killin' elephants in the back yard..."

Saw it today.
Not bad.
Definitely better than most modern noirs that Hollywood pumps out (and I wouldn't be surprised if somebody has optioned this already and is in the process of getting it made with big name stars).
First 2/3 were pretty solid. Final act a bit wobbly, but overall a taut, well-acted thriller with some nice cinematography."Man, we killin' elephants in the back yard..."
