I don't know how long this will last, but right here, right now you can webcam-watch the ski area near Ruidoso NM burning, with snow guns blasting:

I should have - it was really a moment - but I was getting rushed to go out the door. Lo siento, but sometimes I don't call the shots.

    Vibes for Ski Apache.

I guess all we can hope for now is a good early monsoon. This is starting out to be a brutal summer. Durango got hell a lucky Friday with a small fire right in town, could have been bad if it got going.

An unusual firefighting tactic is being used on the southwest corner of the. Snow making machines at Ski Apache Resort are being utilized to wet down fuels, slowing the spread of the fire.

My sister and in laws are up there. My ex brother in laws house burned. It is across the street from my in laws. I am sure they wont get burned as that is the devils castle right there. Fucking assholes, but I don't wish that on anyone. My sister is a few miles away, seems to be ok right now. Everybody is freaking the fuck out, which I can't blame them..No rain in the forecast, and winter sucked..The shit part is this was only a 12acre fire that was put out, they were going to bring in the water, and put it all the way out but officials said no need., 4 days later the wind stirred it up, and now you see what happens when it is not done right. It is gonna get bad, as the wind has been howling in this area for the last week. The feeling I get is that it is worse than is reported, and I don't know why they are under reporting the houses burned. I know that area, and if it went through that area, there are alot of hiomes being hit.

Fingers crossed that the in laws don't have to move in..

Here's a screenshot from 7 pm Monday. Lots of smoke, but you can see it's not all charred. With the camera panned to the right there were more trees and an intact building. Best of luck to those involved.
