HBO is ran by an incompetent fool.

They are steadfastly refusing to allow anyone that doesn't subscribe to cable to subscribe to their streaming service. It's almost as if they want people to torrent their programs.

Interesting article. Not sure if it's conclusions are completely accurate, though.

Personally, I would pay 20.00 a month for HBO streaming. Or, even better, 30.00 a month for HBO and Showtime.

Eventually there will be some sort of streaming cable option where you pay by the channel, and then the pointless channels will finally die a slow death.

I just wish there were cable plans where you can select which channels you want and that is all you get. The pricing could be like ordering a pizza, you pay a flat rate for cheese and every additional topping is a certain price. Why hasn't a single company done this? I would gladly pay for cable if that existed.

So HBO GO works basically like Netflix but with only HBO content, right? I have a family member who is an HBO subscriber and will never, ever use HBO GO due to living in the sticks without broadband. I may have to offer to set up her account for her....

Streaming would open a new revenue river but perhaps to the detriment of current cable income. But it is the future. Netflix made the producers of the original Star Trek series what I think I heard was more money than the show's original syndication. I'm pissed that shows like SGU and Weeds are 2-3 years behind on Netflix. Current streaming on new shows needs to happen. ...waiting for the next netflix to appear.

I read the article and what the author fails to grasp is the importance of the relationship between cable operator and cable programmer. Try to negotiate even more free cross channel promotional spots with your local cable TV operator when your company is doing something that is obviously going to hurt the local cable operator's bottom line. For a company like HBO that is highly dependent on marketing their programming to grow their subsriber base, streaming can't do what a cable operator can do. There probably will be a day when it makes sense for HBO to start streaming because they will be losing too much money in lost subscribers but I doubt they are quite there yet.
