TR: Hiram Peak, June 3, 2012
Location: Hiram Peak (near Highland Lakes)
Motivation: 8 different patches for 9, 10 and 1/2 or 11 runs. My 104th consecutive month skiing. Smooth corn turns that turn into mountain grafitti. Fun.
Date: Sunday, June 3, 2012.
Paticipants: LongShortLong, dookey67, Vets
Our first run was on the Hiram Peak backside bowl/chute.
Looking up at the bootpack...

...and looking back down...

Vets:

A double dose of double dookeys:

(His PSIA level 1.5+ form is certainly deserving of a SKI magazine style creamed corn technique spread.)
...

LongShortLong:

Vets:

LongShortLong:

After some creamed corn snow turns on the backbowl of Hiram we headed to the front in search of smoother, somewhat firmer corn.

dookey67 enters our first of many frontside patches...

LongShortLong gets small and leaves a long corn contrails...

dookey67:

Vets:

LongShortLong and LongShortLong showing his flowing Hawaiian shirt technique for fresh mountain corn grafitti...

He refines his technique with innovative Spaten Optimator ski pole replacements...

...and replaces the replacements with a snow cone setup...

Then there are more patches to explore.

LongShortLong and dookey67 practice their synchronized spraying:

Vets starts down the next patch over:

Dookey67 gets beyond boot sole deep corn:

Then we find another patch that is even smoother.

Dookey67 on his way toward one of the Highland Lakes:

Vets:

Next, it was over to the Staircase Patch...
Dookey67:

LongShortLong hikes away from the staircase patch and over to near Highland Lake for one more run...

...then decides at the last second not to skim a Highland Lake...

A full day of fun.

Back bowls of Hiram still holding good snow. Beautiful day there today. Going fast, but still some very nice lines of smooth corn.

Thank you, thank you all very much!
Patch season feels like the post-season or playoffs of skiing.
Gone2Alpine and I skied The Nipple today. Smooth. I hope to post another TR soon.
