    Another roof rack question

I have a Thule Frontier Box and a Tiguan with factory runners on it. Need to link the two, lowest profile possible. So, I guess I need four towers and two bars and the towers need to attach to the runners. The Thule site has an interactive program that isn't panning out for me, partly because I think it is non-intuitive but mainly because I am a dolt. I think I need something like the Crossroad package.

So, am I correct in assuming the Crossroad is what I need?
Any other thule products that would work?
Anyone know if Yakima would be compatible?

Just went through getting new roof set up after totalling my car so have spent lots of time on the Thule site. Yep - 450 Crossroads Railing footpack and crossbars. When you say other thule products do you mean boxes or footpaks? Of course other boxes will fit but I'd stick with the recommended footpaks. Yakima site says they make racks that fit your vehicle too. Do you like round or square bars?
FWIW I don't like the Thule site either.

Thanks Dave. I meant other Thule towers/footpacks besides the crossroad that would work. I am set on the box and will find a way to use it regardless. I will check out the Yakima site as well but kinda lost momentum after the Thule site. No huge preference on round or square unless the collective has any input on durability or noise issues between the two.

    1) Go to your local gear store. There's folks who can answer your questions in more depth. With roof racks, there's usually about 6 different ways to do any one task.

    2) There is doubtlessly a Yakima product that can do what you want, in addition to the solid Thule option. Read this thread [Best All Around Rack System with a Box: Thule or Yakima?] for some recent musings on the two brands

There is even someone one this site who is a dealer, but I can't remember who.

I agree it is a constitutional right for Americans to be assholes...its just too bad that so many take the opportunity...

I think he was the fella in the other thread SMP noted but frankly, and no denigration implied, I didnt think the prices were any more competitive. The guy at Seattle's overpriced go-to shop recommended the Crossroad. I suppose I will just drop the coin for that system as they dont seem to be coming up on CL.

Yo, commonlaw...I have a full length yakima, it has the extra length from an insert I purchased when I bought it. I had it on a Thule tower and rack setup, but have recently switched it over to the jeep stock rack. Flips right from one to the other. I need to get a stretch net that fits it. So far, so good, I've had it almost ten years. I call it the Adventure Rack (can't believe one these manufacturers haven't grabbed that name) cause, normally, if that thing is full of stuff, I'm off to have fun.

Solid set up. Been trying to figure out how to jimmyrig something workable like that but keep going back to the ease of the Crossroad. Yo, BTW, Fabrizio is looking for you apparently.

Off chance here but anyone in the Oly/Lacey area want to pick up some towers for me (I'll paypal money plus beer money)? Found a killer deal down that way but I cant make it there anytime soon.

Main reason I went to the racks that the Jeep comes with is height, so I flip from ski rack to adventure rack pretty easily. I could drop a box inside it if so inclined. The Thule towers add about 5-7 inches of up and the Jeep racks hold up pretty well and lessen the reach required. I left the front of my ski rack up with four pair of skis in it. It took until 70 mph to break the back plastic cross bar and spill the load onto the freeway....just sayin'.
