I always get into trouble on these XC Bike tests

when I put these pictures up.

Don't give the consumer any ideas they say.

Remember it's an xc bike they say.

The best I got was "Testing an XC-oriented 29er on BC mash-up terrain?
Maybe next try a cyclocrosser. Or how about a time trial bike?
    " -

Don't show any video of breaking the frame they say

but damnit - sometimes you just have to live a little

Shot on "Empress" - Mount Seymour, North Vancouver.

I've got an xc lid, no pads and a xc bike so it must be xc right? Right?

Self-photo'ed so not too many pictures. Self - video to come

and the last move I pussed out on - ohhh xc bikes

Pretty sure the excuse to puss out on steep terrain is a primary selling point for xc bikes. IE: "Man, if I had my Reign I totally would have cleaned that, but I don't want to crack my Anthem X, plus the bottom bracket is way to high for this stuff."

demo'd the element 29er and the carbon element 26 a couple weeks ago, and they are real capable bikes for 4" of travel.

They don't seem to get as much love on this site as some other brands. I am very happy with my rocky mountain. So much so that I would probably pay retail for the next one.

Nice riding by the way. I am amazed how you PNW guys deal with damp slick rocks.

Because I'm losing my mind, I'm not sure if I've said this 12 times already, but all your photos make me really want to visit BC. Seriously, nearly every pic in every thread. So thanks.

That is EXACTLY the reason I ride clipped in on the tech! OMG I'd love to that 20 foot high skinny but I'm clipped in!

good stuff lee. nice to be able to see you ride on film. without the POV perspective.

i know this is an old argument, but I swear, once i got a 'big' bike and realized what mtn bikes could do, I started riding my 'xc' bike a lot more aggressively. I still say riding a big bike makes you a better rider in the long run.

Lee, when does the 29er in the Bike Park test day happen?

How does the 29er handle on table tops?

Do those giant wheels fit in the bike racks on the Fitz?

Imagine the horror of the interweb pundits seeing you with a full face on that bike.

Those wheels fit! 29er's are about the same wheelbase as dh bikes. Crazy

Always laugh at this. Seems the bike dictates what armour you wear for most people, not the riding. If there wasn't a chair lift up the bike park it would be normal to rock just an xc lid down joyride wouldn't it.

Pinkbike's the one that always gets me. For bike tests I have to rock the full face, goggles and no gloves for a certain type of bike on Trail X. Then I'll be on the half lid and shorts with no pads for trail Y and voila - total loss of cred. Even though Trail Y might be way harder than Trail X. The fanboi'ism and fashion queen sense of biketards never ceases to amaze. To be fair though its the same in MTBR and probably the same in most other sites too.

    ...oh, but never on here!

I am always surprised at the amount of travel and armour I see folks with on MSLA area's trails. The smoothest, buffest shit around... Some sort of boi-ish queens fo sho! It is more the look than the action.

    nice review you did there.

You rode a mountain bike, out mountain biking on mountain bike trails.

All those overly categorical morons should and NEED to be ignored. They're the idiot byproduct of all these dumb companies creating their own separate 'niches' to sell more bikes.

Rocky mountain is itself somewhat to blame for the dumb video they just put out with wade and vandersteeze and their stupid "omygod, capable riders are capable" video.

Go ride a dirt road to make the review you know.......'complete' in a 4" travel 29er sense.

edit: you get hole in them britches or what?

Yeah man, Ned's is one trail I'd actually really like to ride a 29er down. And it also happens to be part of the trail network right by everyone's house who lives in vancouver. Testing bikes where you live is relevant to a lot of people.

'no brah, you should drive to pemberton before you say anything about a bike.....that's where the 'real' 29er 4" bike terrain is'

Being of a similar stature the holy britches thing seems inevitable to me.
