epic concerts you missed by "this much!"

After seeing Dookey's post on Kevin Kinnney i got kind of nostalgic. In college i had tix to see Drivin n Cryin in KC, but we couldn't afford the gas and hotel room to go see them. I have always wondered why they never went anywhere?
I also missed the RHCP on their Blood Sugar Sex Magic tour due to severe flu. I had seen them before in LA, but this was the last time to see them before they went down the tubes.
Halloween, Vegas, 1997 Phish also got me. i got shut out after trying every hippy dirtbag trick i knew. Luckily Vegas, in an altered state, on Halloween, is amazing.
I also recently missed the original members of X on their Los Angeles tour. Hopefully they have at least one more in them!

srv several times in oregon -- i was always in yellowstone.

grateful dead's third decadenal field trip at the country fairgrounds in 92 because jerry was in a coma. had my tickets, ready to camp in my 73 westphalia with my girlfriend and was on my way to work when i heard it on the radio. crushing. went to see clapton at the tacoma dome instead, which was during my layla and other assorted love songs phase, expecting to see him lay his guts out on the floor. instead he played monster hit after monster hit dressed in a tux, barely saying a word the entire time. super tight band. then he played tears in heaven, which i have never cared for much and all the women in the dome started singing it with him. i wanted to shoot myself in the head. one of the most disappointing concerts i've ever been to. my fault.

After returning from the Grateful Dead's 1992 summer tour, Garcia became extremely sick, evidently a throwback to his diabetic coma in 1986.[17] Refusing to go to the hospital, he instead enlisted the aid of an acupuncturist named Yen Wei Choong and a licensed doctor to treat him personally at home. Garcia recovered over the following days, despite the Grateful Dead having to cancel their fall tour to allow him time to recuperate. Following this episode, Garcia quit smoking, became a vegetarian, and began losing weight.

edit: i think the first announcements that i heard suggested he'd fallen into a coma again. there was a fair amount of confusion at the time. it's been a while.

RHCP with a new band called Pearl Jam opening. Was psyched to check it out since it was former members of Mother Love Bone. Concert was night before final design review for the semester. No way I could go.

On the plus side the year before I saw RHCP, Fishbone, and Mighty Mighty Bosstones. Now that was a fun show! RHCP were still wearing just socks.

I saw the Feet on that tour, Tower of Power backing the band, show opened by an unknown (to me) Van Halen.

Had tickets in 1980 for the UMass/Amherst stop for Bob Marley, but sadly, he passed away, RIP. I'll bet a nickel someone here was at his last show, Pittsburgh (9.23.80).

Bought tickets for myself and three others to see Firehose (NOT Firehouse) at a club in Santa Fe (1993?) for my birthday; got so effed up we arrived late, and missed the show.

Nine Inch Nails in 2005 at the Hollywood Bowl (All that could have been tour). Got invited to a wedding as a groomsman the day after I bought tickets.

Sad part: this is where a good chunk of the tour video came from, and Trent fucking killed it.

Johnny Cash at the Boulder Theater in '97, traded the tickets for a set of bike wheels.

I had tix to see U2 on their pre-arena tour for Unforgettable Fire. They were playing a small venue in San Francisco. Said venue is long gone/can't remember the name of it. At any rate my mom wouldn't let me go, so I had to sell my ticket. Saw them when they came through on the proper BIG tour for that album at the Cow Palace, but it would have been great to have seen them in a more intimate setting.

I missed Van Halen on their Diver Down tour. Again, mom thwarted the plans! I had just gone to see King Crimson at the Greek and as a result I wasn't allowed to go see VH (which was the following week). I was on a 1 concert a month quota whilst in high school.

Always bummed that I missed Talking Heads, too.

Pink Floyd Division Bell Tour, 1994 at Giants Stadium....

Didn't feel like paying $40 because I was saving up for a surfboard (was 13 at the time).

1980 led zeppelin euro tour. I was an exchange student in Germany, couldn't convince the family to go. Bonham collapsed onstage a few shows later and the rest is history. I still have a tour poster somewhere that I tore off a street ad in Cologne.

Those Feat tours around that time were the best from what I've heard. The whole Waiting For Columbus album days........ One of the best live albums ever in my opinion. And there are a lot of really great live albums out there.

Allman Brothers Live at the Fillmore album concert. Had tickets the week before, and the week after (went a lot). Buddy had a ticket and asked if I wanted it. Nah, I had netter things to do, I guess.

It isn't necessary to imagine the world ending in fire or ice. There are two other possibilities: one is paperwork, and the other is nostalgia.

Well, they only had one album out at the time, which was hard to listen to doing the drugs of choice at the time. Hippies didn't drink.

    A show I wished I had missed.

Saw Econoline Crush play at a pub one night. Their opening act was a piece of shit band called Nickelback.

Beastie boys in like 2000, with No Doubt and RATM. Mike d hit a pothole on his bike and dislocated his shoulder, so they canceled the tour.
