Must see on Van. Isle
Hoping to take a 3-4week bike tour through the island from Sidney-Campbell River-Gold River-Port Hardy or Sidney-Tofino in the late summer. Anyone done a similar trip or have any places of interest that I should include? I'm not going to have a place to live and all my belongs will be sold or be in storage in a friends loft, so I figure I might as well see some cool stuff under my own power. I'll be riding a light hardtail xc bike as its my only bike and kills the roads with a pair of slicks but will be bringing a change of tires because riding only the road is for pussies and old men.
Places to crash? Trails to ride? Stops not worth missing? Hikes in the area? I'll have a homebrew on reserve for anyone that can reliably lend a hand.Rogue Weather - Providing accurate, useful, and detailed weather outlook information for the West Coast

I did this 30+ years ago after getting my heart broken in college. waaaahhhh! Ended up camping in peoples yards in exchange for work etc. Slept on lots of beaches.
from there.Took the ferry from Anacortes to Sydney, banged around all over the lower island. Be sure to spend plenty of time in the Gulf Islands. Lots of ferries make it easy to island hop and at least when I did it was super easy to find a secluded beach spot to camp. Gulf islands are land of the gods IMHO

As of now, I might have a gorgeous bellingham hippy girl on retainer to do the trip with me. I talked it over and she was planning more or less the same trip independently so we figured it would be best to combine our single selves together and save the weight of a room.
Looks like it's going to be up the inner side of the island, stopping along the way, then through to Cowichan and then ending up cruising down the west coast of the island.
We're still looking for things to do along the way, and were very open to suggestionsRogue Weather - Providing accurate, useful, and detailed weather outlook information for the West Coast
