Joplin rebuild at $50 or upgrade to Kronolog at $175?
Sent in a Joplin 3 for repair, and CB offers either a rebuild for $50 (says "new and improved seals") or upgrade to a Kronolog for $175. I assume the Kronolog would be new, and with a 2-year warranty.
Worthwhile? The Kronolog has gotten some terrible reviews, with those notches wearing out quickly. The Joplins have been pretty good to me, overall.

Sounds like you know the problems with the Kronolog and seem pretty satisfied with the Joplin. Seems like a no brainer to stick with the Joplin and save some bucks.
My question concerning the Kronolog is did the notches being worn actually affect the performance of the post at all? Everyone seems to be bitching that it happened, but I haven't read anything that said it actually was a problem and not just aesthetic. IIRC CB's reply to Pinkbike was that it was purely aesthetic. All I know is that I don't know nothin'... and that's fine.

In the PB review you refer to, they said that they had problems with the post dropping down a bit from full extension asw ell as it raising up a bit from the fully dropped position. They said that it seemed to be due to the wearing of the knurled surface. Crank Bros countered that it was due to incorrect cable tension. I call bullshit on CB.

There's a warranty on the Joplin rebuild, but I don't know how long -- 90 days? I'll ask.

Save the $125 and put it toward a more reliable post. Use the Joplin until you don't want it anymore or find something better for a decent price.
Its a "deal," but you'll probably have to go through similar annoying rebuilds with the Kronolog.

So you don't recommend the Kronolog Lee?

I thin this is the most worked up I've ever seen you. LOL.There's nothing better than sliding down snow and flying through the air.

EC, what did you end up doing? I just found out I have to send my Joplin 4 in and am wondering if I should upgrade to the Kronolog, although everything I am reading hear says no. I got 2 good years out of my J4.

I paid them $50 and got the Joplin back. They claim to have improved seals, etc... who knows. If it holds up OK for a couple years, that seems reasonable.

Looking at the title of this thread.
The Kronolog doesn't seem to be an "upgrade" from the Joplin any more.
