The EHP is so damn surfy! I hope I don't regret the rens and star looki g for EHPs again. Honestly I don't think you can go wrong with them

talk to esales, one of the pairs that he has for sale came from me, and they are in gooood shape.
you might be surprised at the price (and if it's too much, save a bit more).

I'd throw the Atomic Automatic in the mix. Demoed them at the end of the season and found them the be a bit more aggressive and stable than my Bentchetlers but still plenty playful.

191 Billy Goat would work, especially the tour version, which should be a bit more "playful." I found my Billy Goats to be a really nice combination of stability and playfulness. Didn't feel like I was getting thrown around in the chop, but could turn them quickly if needed.

I've found a deal for 350€ on some brand new 193 EHP's... So tempting, but really 100€ more than I'd like to spend... They are beautiful though!

Also: does anyone have any info on the Scott Megadozers? Got a deal for 300€ (195's) to pick them up. I don't think they can really charge though, can they?

191 wren skis true to size if not longer. it's not measured on the whole "skis short" scale.

was looking for about the same type of ski as the OP, (i'm 6'0", 205), got a really great deal on a pair of very slightly used '12 Surface Live Life 191's. they feel pretty stiff so they should charge pretty hard and they have a good amount of width (156-120-135) and rocker for the pow. hopefully they work out well for that same type of skiing.

What did you pay for them? I'm trying to figure out what would be reasonable. I think second-hand ski's would be about 250-300 right? That's why I'm really thinking of getting the EHP's for 350 (Euro's though). Brand new, this seasons.

Well, I got a pretty damn good deal through geartrade.com, got em for $188 with free shipping. Backcountry sells a ton of their returned stuff on that site.

340$ ain't bad. About 270€. Or 370€ for the EHP's. I'm going to look up some reviews for the D-Senders now.

EDIT: Not too much out there on this bad boy. How does it compare against the EHP?

I was quite disappointed to only snag 3 days on the slope last season because of school and locale ... University of Illinois has corn, corn, and more corn. So I am journeying out west to chase the snow for winter break (3 weeks). Definitely planning on hitting WY, ID, MT area plus the PNW and maybe BC and if conditions call for ... a drive to CO or UT. Ultimately, destinations will be based on snow ... I am not eyeing specific resorts or regions.

I am an EC'er so my quiver is a Bluehouse MR 171. Looking to expand that to either one or two skis. Obviously, the less money the better. Stand "tall" at 5'7" ... 130 pounds. Intermediate-advanced skier.

I want to be prepared to face varying conditions (Jackson's powder to PNW's slush). Spec range: 170cm-180cm (unless you suggest longer), 110mm-125mm underfoot, ideally under <25m turning radius. The ski(s) needs to be able to handle [#1 fresh, untracked powder, #2 some hardpack with the occasional case of frozen granular, #3 groomers]; [#1 open bowls, #2 nimble tree skiing, #3 pillow lines/kickers, #4 mini-Seth big mountain charges].

Have been eyeing ... Bibby, Caylor, Opus, JJ, Maestro, obSETHed. Second tier: Kung Fujas, YLE

So what do you say?

I hope the OP pulled the trigger on the 194 D-Senders. I have a pair of the 2009 (no ER/rocker) and love 'em. Kind of bummed I missed the summer sale this year, but I will grab another pair next summer.

And so I gather I should go longer than 175. Or is 175+ too big for a small guy like me (I'm a skinny ass middle distance runner). In any case, I am seeking input on rankings based on what's out there NOW. Not what's going to be out there come December. I don't care if it's a 2010/2011 or 2011/2012 model. Slightly used is fine. Hope you get the picture.

Maybe if you just want to reaffirm my idea of a quiver ...

And please add recs on what size with the ranking you see fit.

Don't know much about the Maestro or Opus, so I'll restrict myself to the others: Bibby and Caylor are going to tilt more to the 'charger' side, JJ and Obsethed to the 'playful' side. Particularly for crud/chop the Bibby and Caylor are both going to be easier to manage (especially at speed) than the JJ or Obsethed. Of these, the Bibby is probably the best firm snow ski, in bumps perhaps the caylor (enough rocker to get down into troughs, but stiff enough to pop if you want to and don't fold up). With any of these, I'd probably recommend going to something in a 180+, even at your size. If it were me, I'd probably go with a 181 caylor (or caylor lite) or 184 bibby pro.

You may be able to track down a YLE somewhere, but I think we have a few older 179 EHPs floating around the 4FRNT warehouse. They will be pretty cheap since they are the 07-08 graphic. PM if you're interested and I'll go dig them out on Monday.
