Price Police - Custom Steel Hardtail; full XTR; Chis King; Race Face; SID
i have some cash socked away and i'm trying to decide whether to use it to fix the transmission in my storm chasing van (probably should do this), or buy a 5"-6" travel MTB (575/ 5 spot/ Reign/ something else ...).
if i buy a new bike i'll have to dump the old.
Custom steel frame (fillet brazed by Chris Zanotti w/ Ritchey WCS tubing)
Full XTR (cranks, BB, front and rear derailleurs, shifters, V-brakes, hubs laced to Mavic 517s)
Chris King head set
Race Face stem and bar
Rock Shock SID SL fork
Rock Shock seatpost
Selle Italia seat
thing's a work of art (fillet brazing is pretty)
climbs like a goat
low mileage
~22#

What size frame?
SID fork is old right?
How many miles on the drivetrain? Maintained?
You know how used bikes are priced. At least 50% retail to start, minus years, minus use, minus.....used?
Bike looks sick btw. Love steel hard tails.Terje was right.

19" frame
SID SL is old.
drivetrain is new (<50 miles, no mud).
well maintained (although not religiously).

I was thinking about the same price range as mtnlion. 12 years ago that bike was really rad, but older bikes aren't worth much.

You can keep the fork and seat and seat post and I will give you 300 for it? Serious at that price.

what are the collective's thoughts on dumping the SID and putting a new(er) 120-140mm travel fork that has a longer axle to crown length to slightly slacken out the rather steep geometry on this bike?
if this idea isn't crazy what fork(s) would be worth considering?
maybe add a riser bar / shorter stem?
i'm not sure i want to spend ~$1500 on a bike.In search of the elusive artic powder weasel ...
