Thread: Moon shots

After taking some shots of the full moon a couple weeks ago I realized you're either going to properly expose the moon and everything else in the image will be black, or you'll get some foreground detail with a moon that's blown out. So am I correct in assuming that damn near every photo you see showing a nicely exposed full moon along with some foreground detail done using multiple exposures?

Pretty much, unless you use lights. Or it's sunset/sunrise...

Yeah. While you're at it, make the moon 4 times bigger than it naturally appears too.

Not necessarily.

Dawn and dusk are your friends.

I assume you're talking about night shots because you can easily get a decent exposure out of mid-day moon rises and sets.

Correct. Night shots. I guess a full moon also mean moonrise close to sunset, so I suppose you need to catch it just at the right time when there's still some light.
