Thread: Funny censorship on powdermag.com

So I have tried twice to make a comment on the below article, which is unreal in my opinion. Powder will not publish my comment, so I figured, ah what the hell, I can just post it on tetongravity.com, where the people speak. Powder shreds our film in praise of All I can and a few other films. In doing so they write, "Sage and Dana went big in Alaska, Ingrid skied pow, and Ahmet got twisty on some rails. Cool? Yes. Innovative? Not really." Funny thing is that Dana did not even ski in Alaska in One for the Road. You may say I am whining, but if you are going to shred our film, you at least should have watched it and gotten your facts straight. This person, whether he watched our film or not, had clearly made up his mind long before our film came out. Ironically enough, OFTR was a complete change from previous films. I am all for the films that were noted in this article and we have obviously supported all these films on our site, but, you need to have your facts straight if you are going to rip on our film.

Ah, I feel better now. Thank god censorship does not really exist anymore.

Ski movies get creative

This year’s batch of big-name ski movies was largely predicable: Sage and Dana went big in Alaska, Ingrid skied pow, and Ahmet got twisty on some rails. Cool? Yes. Innovative? Not really. But small production houses, like Sherpas Cinema and Sweetgrass Productions, turned out creative, plot-focused, incredibly well-shot films that we’ll be watching for a long time. And we’re not the only ones who feel that way (cough, Powder Awards Movie of the Year, cough). Even non-skiers took notice, as JP Auclair’s street segment from All.I.Can. went extra viral and Switchback Entertainment’s The Freedom Chair won major accolades at Banff and X-Dance. -H.H.

I have to agree there. Best segment I have ever seen in any ski film in crossing lines to where even non skiers took notice. That shit pushed it.

i like sweetgrass' stuff better than anybody else's by about a mile. less ego.

Prefacing with I enjoy the hell out of most ski flicks, I thought OFTR really outdid the last few TGR flicks. Good vibe, fun travel segments, cool theme. I think this was about the best batch of ski flicks I can remember coming out the same time. Even Warren Miller had it's moments. YMMV.

I like Sweetgrass, but it borders on being overdone with story and imagery at times.

not like 90% of the other flicks that are totally overdone with shitty music, the same shots ad nauseam with little continuity and awful dialogue.

Is One For The Road that one with Sean White? That guy's awesome. I loved that movie.

Plus, I wouldn't really call it censorship when they won't post your comment. It's their website, they can do what they want. Plenty of other sites on the internet don't allow comments either.

(I'm not really taking sides on the movie issue since I didn't see any of them this year)

You've got a point, but I wouldn't have titled the thread quite so aggressively, it's kind of bad form. I would have imagined that it would have been handled in a more quiet among buddies sort of approach as opposed to cliquish rancor.

TGR has long been on the forefront of delivering awesome enthusiastic dreamtime and everyone knows that. If AIC brings in a different focus, maybe there's something to learn.

Anyway, all the love and thanks for bringing it all these years.

Pretty lackadaisical review on their part and extra weak they won't go back and admit their mistake.

Perhaps 1 4 da road did not feature enough Rossignol and Salomon products to their liking.

I'll agree that Sweetgrass' first movie was sick, but their second one was less than mediocre. It's more like a nature film with a little bit of skiing thrown in. No continuity. Also didn't like how every air or trick went out of screen or was cut off.

That being said, I hope they can turn it around with their next flick. I think they'll have to in order to be relevant for a while.

You may be right about PDR dissing TGR, but I think you're reading too much into the comment.
I'm betting the author is speaking "in general", about TGR, MSP, & WM? Maybe NorthFace? Is anyone else considered "Big name"?
So, he chose "Famous Skiers" that we'd prolly know of.

Now, do Sage, Dana, Ingrid and Ahmet (the wanker) only ski for a particular Movie co? Well, that could give the wrong impression, sure.
*But, I do think they should allow you to comment about Dana not being in AK*

In fact they should be stoked that someone from tgr is even paying attention to their tired, pedestrian, mundane articles...

Hey Todd, I thought OFTR was your best one since Continuum. Good work. It was really fun to watch and this is coming from a now aging hard critic ski bum.

considering the market for most of the "relevant" movie productions, artistically it may not be a good thing to be relevant. if they can stay alive doing their own thing, i'll be grateful for the diversity. i've been bored stiff (well, if you ignore the nausea from the consistently shitty soundtracks) within 30 minutes of just about every ski movie i've watched.
