Sony NEX FS700 - All I can do right now is dream

I've been hearing some good things about this camera and I think that it'd be awesome to have for the action sports/events shooting.

At full 1080 30p you can go up to 300 fps. Talk about smooth for over and undercranking. I want I want I want.

    ahem......

I've seen a lot of shitty video from the preproduction units floating around. Sony should get a better handle on their 'testers'

Some of it looks straight out of a 500 dollar camcorder.

Ah. I searched using the camera model number but I see after reading your thread why that didn't bring up your thread.

I first saw this off Philip Bloom's site and that's the only footage I've seen so far. You are always on point tho Kidwoo

Like you probably are as well, I'm going to be paying really close attention to what gets thrown out once the production units start selling. So far it kind of looks like a glorified slr as far as nuts and bolts merits of the footage itself. There's a certain 'sony look' that I hope can be corrected for. We'll see. The ability to do those framerates has me mouthwatering but kind of cautiously.

I'll agree with you on the look. I had a Sony FX-7 before getting a Panasonic HMC-150 and there is such a noticeable difference. I'm also not stoked on the eye piece adapter to the LCD screen and the lack of lock down.

While I understand woo's "look" comment, you are comparing apples to oranges with those 2 cameras. You have to at least compare similar formats to make any judgements on look.

Why? All video cameras now have LCD screens in the viewfinders. This one actually has more resolution than many ENG cameras and can be set to HC B&W, supposedly.

Not sure what you mean by "lock down" if you're worried about it flipping up on you unexpectedly I'm sure they've addressed that.

Leave it to Bloomers to figgur it out.

    This stuff looks pretty legit.

I'm calling a mandate right now though that if you're going to pull a 240fps shot, shoot something interesting dammit.

this is what i've heard about it v the fs100
Noise handling - FS100 is probably the BEST low light camera out there. The 700 is noisier at higher ISO's
Dynamic Range - seems to be slightly less, could just be some of the pre-production model tests not attempting to perfect it
Image sharpness/resolution - I have an untrained eye but watching some tests I could tell, especially at higher fps, that the image seemed soft and not as crisp as some of the fs100 footage i've seen
Compression of 120fps and above - well, looks pretty bad. Probably vimeo or my connection, but it looked blocky and very typical of AVCHD.

I guess for skiing and a 15k budget it would be alright, Resolution issues mean very little for web delivery, and the high fps/built in ND's are nice to have (but please dont overuse slowmo, for the love of god)

Tell your buddy to check out the canon c300

    Not even close.

As far as 'higher fps', that would depend on specifically which setting. Above 240fps, resolution outputs are smaller.

I do agree there's still a hint of shitty consumer AVCHD look to a lot of what's out there. You're going to need to really pay attention to lighting if getting this camera I think.

Yes true. I guess I should expand that to say really just the sony look overall, just like how you can tell anyone that's shooting with a Canon 7d or 5d. It's overall noticeable, like any HD shot on an MSP film, you can tell they're using Sony.

    I
m not talking about the LCD screen at all, just the eyepiece adapter going to it.

If you go back to the video the kidwoo posted of the guy with the preproduction unit, talking about the issues of using the eye piece while performing handheld shots and seeing the eyepiece move around. Just hoping that Sony does address that specific lockdown issue.

    Is that more clear?
