I think it's a good and consistent record, but if I had to pick a 'Marley' album I'd pick either Catch a Fire or Burnin'. I prefer the Wailers to Bob Marley and the Wailers. A lot was lost with the departure of Peter and Bunny.

Yeah I don't get the perfectness of it in comparison to his other albums.

It's great, don't get me wrong...

Somehow we're onto Page 5 and nobody's mentioned Bruce Springsteen's Born in the USA. How is that possible?

Agreed re Marley, Catch A Fire would be my choice if I was putting him on this list.

And Graceland is an excellent pick, very much a perfect album.

funny I have been listening to albums recently
I mean all the way through, even stopping after side one to appreciate how they were put together. intentionally, not just a collection of songs. in his auto biography, Keith Richards talks about when pop/rock albums evolved into albums and not just a collection of Singles & b sides &chatting with Paul mcCartney about it.
Jazz seems to have always done this

Funny, I started reading your post and as I saw Bruce and "Born" I thought to myself, he's right, Born to Run might be a good choice. But you went with Born in the USA. Really? Sorry, can't agree with that choice.

ugh. can't stand wilburies or graceland and have never cared for springsteen much. i always joke that whoever jeff lynne touches gets elo-ed. and i loved elo when i was 16.

live i like SRV live alive. not perfect, but pretty damn good.

Which begs a bigger question, do you have to like the artist to recognize the perfectness of the album?

For instance I can't fucking stand the Beastie Boys.. but it would be difficult to argue (edit: against the stance) that they may have released a (or more than one) perfect album.

Springsteen does suck though. And someone mentioned Genesis earlier.... them too, but even more.

i don't think you should have to like the artist to recognize the perfectness of the album, but i'm definitely less of a music aficionado than some here. i like a lot of different music, but very little of it is current.

I think you have to at least like them to recognize the perfectness of an album. I mean, people are listing all sorts of albums by all sorts of artists, and to really say "that album is perfect for what it is", I can't see hating the music.

yeah, maybe at least respect instead of like. i'd probably have a hard time with the beastie boys because i just can't stand their music or their lyrics. if i can identify with the writing, i can get past the music that is not my favorite. i'm sure there are a lot of musicians who respect the skill and talent of a lot of music that they may not necessarily care for because they recognize the skill and talent where a consumer might not.

But it depends on the definition of perfect in this whole context, which may in fact be a more interesting conversation than any specific music selections offered up?

Well then we should all agree that Michael Jackson's Thriller is a perfect album... just don't make me listen to it.

And yes, I like Kaya more than Babylon by Bus. Another Reggae Album that's perfect (or nearly so) is Black Uhuru's Red.

So do I (probably) That doesn't explain why it'd be more perfect than >....any other Marley studio album....<. It's certainly quite different in style/content/theme.
