    Joe Jackson

    Much overlooked. Talented as hell.

If he did just this one song he'd be noteworthy. But he did a way fucking shitload more. "Sunday papers" kills though.

Look Sharp is pretty much a perfect album.

He's touring the states presently; playing here in a month or so. On fence.

Saw him at the Belly Up in Solana Beach, great show.
The blues has always been about taking your problems and turning them into something you can dance to, drink to and fuck to.
We're certainly not a blues band in any kind of purest sense, but to me Rock and Roll has always had it's roots in that tradition.

Used to like. Do not like. I also used to fold and tuck the cuff on my jeans in and roll up the bottom.

Too bad he conspired to throw that one World Series. At least he had singing to fall back on.

well I can see how you'd change your style but if music is good it's good, no? How do you decide something is bad when you already decided it's good?

I guess I must've done the same thing but I can't think when.

Big world was an amazing record. He has some interesting views on tobacco use as well.

Alright. I admit to od'ing on "Joe Jackson Live 1980-1986." Obsessed and simply had to go cold turkey. Can't even say the name anymore.

Edit: Listen to it. It's really, really good.

Second this, especially since it was recorded live, though you'd never know it. Have it on vinyl and CD. Guitar player (Vinnie Zummo - who? and whatever happened to him?) is unreal. Even though though the politics are Reagan-era, the sentiment is still relevant.

I promise you this: you will outlive the bastards." – Edward Abbey

Night and Day and Dire Straits Making Movies got me thru a few all nighters cranking out 30 page term papers with 2 index fingers on an electric type writer back in the day. Fucking footnotes.........

Cool find. The thing I always found most intriguing about that record (beside the music) was the fact - at least as I understood it - that it wasn't your typical 'live album' culled from the best performances of various tunes over the course of a tour. It was recorded at one show on one night, put on specifically to make this one record with a specifically ordered set list. The audience was asked to hold the applause and noise during performances so the tracks could be spliced together to sound more like a studio album albeit with the live performance, no multi tracking energy.

Top flight songwriting, performances, musicianship, and IMHO, beautiful production values for being live and considering the technology of the time. Under appreciated as a whole piece I think.

Jumpin' Jive was the first ever CD I bought, love that album.

Saw him at Red Rocks one time and he was a complete asshole. Yelled at his band and made them do the opening number three times till they got it right. Kept stopping them in the middle of the tune and abused the band with a cursing rant that made Christian Bale and Mel Gibson look like priests.

I have never seen anything like it. Lost a lot of respect for him that night.

^^^damn! back row of the balcony at $169. Joe must need to buy more smokes. Moore is a really badass place to see a good show though. Can't even count how many incredible concerts of been to there.
