    2012 Northern Rky Mtn Summit

Alright fellas. Might be earlier than past years but this year is different for me as my Wife and I are having another kid at the end of September. For those that have kids, you'll get it....I can't do shit as far as overnighters this fall. So, sorry for being selfish but anybody wanna get together and raise hell, (maybe we will find fish too) earlier this year?

Who's in for a late July or 1st wkd in August summit in MT, (Maddy, Yellowstone River, Mo??). South Fork of the Snake would work too.

Speak up and let's make some plans!

Hrrrrmmmm I just google mapped this and figured it would only be about a 5-6 hour drive down from where I am in Canada. I think I may want some details

Given the lowish water year earlier is probably better.

I'm guessing the salmonfly hatch on the SF will be in or above the canyon by July 1st and drakes, sallies, goldens and pmds will be abundant in July - BUT - if we have a hot summer, the August doldrums will return to the SF.

I have a feeling the August doldrums will be seen on quite a few area rivers. The good part is that the drinking is still damn good then.

Thx LB! Doesn't matter to me where we go either. We outta hit up a pre-summit day on the SF of the Maddy and try to get munched on by a griz or 2. I'll be up in Bozone for a wedding in mid July too.

I'm IN, except this here - http://redantspantsmusicfestival.com/ and http://redantspantsmusicfestival.com/line-up/ , will be what I'm doing the last weekend of July - pretty tough competition in that time slot for your SW MT maggotly-types (if you like that kind of music I guess). Last year's event garnered the highest CountryFunk rating for a good time.

    Also highly recommended;
    - juice of one lime
    - 1/2 shot blue agave nectar
    - 1 shot rum
    shake over ice and pour

Two of these in the last 20 minutes have me in a very good space ...

    Later.

We've got out-of-town guests that weekend, but I have a feeling the dads could use a day or two away from the wives and kids for some beer, brown water, and good times. I'll check with my buddy...shouldn't take too much arm twistin'.

With our good snow pack and wet June, the CLark Fork will be a great option that time of year. The Superior, MT area should be all time then. Just an idea. There is plenty of camping areas also.

I'll be in the Big Sky area the first week of August with family and was planning on bringing my fly rod anyway, would be even better to meet up with some mags and drink/fish if that ends up being the weekend this goes down. I'll keep an eye on this thread and see what develops.

Depending on the final date, I'm in. Aug would be better than end of July for me, but with that said, I'll be on the Mile and Grey Reef 7/20-24...

Would love to drink some beer with you k00ks.

Let's do Aug then. Kinda puts a kibosh on where we fish but who cares. We had a horrible fish catching weekend last year but that that didn't matter too much.

    How about 8/10-12?

Nice, found out the dates I'm in Big Sky will be August 11-18. LB I'll definitely be in touch once I find out what days I'm free to do my own thing, thanks for the offer.

We do have to get this thing nailed down if it's gonna happen! I say we pick one river and fish it hard for a couple days.

    1. Southern MT: why not try the old staple...Yellowstone River? I'd vote for a Beaverhead/Big hole summit but the BH will be bath water and only fishing from sunrise to 9ish and then again a hr before sunset til dark.

    2. South Fork (ID): a little redundant but we didn't hit it hard last time around. One day floating the upper and another day, (overnight if people want), fishing the canyon stretch.

    3. Cody WY: A few options there.

I'd like to throw in an option closer to Missoula but I'm betting that area will be encompassed in river closures and smoke. The three choices above should all fish. Maybe not fall fishing but....

My vote is for Cody or the Wind. Just try to avoid a double digit drive from CO.
