****road still closed as of 10:45am today****

Based on the temps and cloud cover since my last visit on the 12th, I'd say the snow shouldn't be much different than a week ago...especially if you are going for Leavitt and vicinity. If the pass is open on Sunday, I'm planning for a 7am arrival and going up from the hairpin to nail down some of the last couloirs on my list up there.

    From last Tuesday...

Hopefully better, since this storm had a lot less wind.

I am headed from Reno to a cabin at Pinecrest tomorrow, Thursday, night......just figured out Sonora is closed.

If it happens to open on Thursday, please let me know. If not it looks like Ebbets is open, and the fastest route. Thanks!

Probably not going to open. A few inches forecast tonight and tomorrow.

If you're looking for something to do Saturday night come down to Twain Harte and check out Simple Creation (reggae) at Cafe Blossom. It's a Sierra Nevada pint night and I'm pouring beer. Ask the bartender for change for a nickel.

    Thanks Mike.

We are leaving now in the AM.....headed over Ebbetts, doing Calaveras Big Trees, then coming around to get to Pinecrest. We have 5 kids in tow, so guessing we are driving down, but just in case.......How early will you be there on Sat?

I am hopeful by Monday we can drive home over Sonora (I am hoping to bike it also).

    Sonora Pass

Don't count on Ebbetts Pass. Check before you go by Monitor.

I'll be at the cafe around 7 music starts at 8. Super kid friendly atmosphere. Free music. Great beer.

Oh Sonora Pass...ever such a tease and always messing with my so few 'decent' ski days left on my calendar. Definitely a love-hate relationship but I'm never breaking up with you.

I'm hoping to take Owen up Monday. Hoping solo Tuesday.

Have you ever been out to the north side of the highway? Sonora Peak or Stanislaus Peak?

Pissing rain in Twain Harte right now. Could be an interesting night for the band.

Did you use any rebar in those rail road tie steps (as in drill through, and pound?) or are they just set into the ground? How long have they been in? Just curious, as I am working on some.

Unsure. They are spiked in some way or another. They are 30? years old. I'll ask my buddy that built it.

I'll be at the hairpin with some folks around 7:30am to do some chuting above Deadman Lake...

Meanwhile, here's the vid from May 12th:

Skied some nameless chute above Sonora today. Snow was wet mank that never froze overnight (to 11k?), plus we were graced with a nice rain storm to finish the day. I'd check the overnight freezing levels...or just wait until a corn cycle matures. Pretty rough out there.

We didn't go to Leavitt but it looked plastered...the objective was to punch up a north facing chute near deadmans couloir. Success! But we did it in the rain and the exit was as if we still had on our skins. Boo.

    This NWS forecast is fucked.

    Tonight
Scattered showers and thunderstorms after 3am. Partly cloudy, with a temperature falling to near 32 by 8pm, then rising to around 52 during the remainder of the night. Southwest wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Does anyone know about camping close to the ski zone? I think the higher campgrounds are closed.
