Looking like various family missions to SP this weekend: Krystal Kartwright solo Saturday, the whole damn family Sunday, me solo Monday.

CalTrans site now shows 108 as being open all the way through (it was shown as closed just a couple hours ago). We're heading up that way tomorrow, alas with bikes not skis.

Dookey67 and I did a dusk patrol recon mission just west of the pass yesterday evening. Plenty of skiable lines up there.
I still need to sort through our skiing photos. If any came out in low light I'll post them.

Was there a crew of sled necks camped just west if the pass?

Krystal Kartwright said it was good. Small sled crew. A few folks out toward No Name. A bunch out at Leavitt Peak.

No snow at the hairpin. Water flowing freely.

I'll try to post some pics from her later.

Do you mean there's no snow bridge?

as Vets mentioned, we banged out a dusk patrol on the 17th.
we poached an already set skin track around 6:30 and were back at the car by 8,
snow had begun to set up as we skinned and by the time we skied it was breakable crust over porridge.
be best to hit it earlier in the day if you're gonna go.

A few photos from the Sonora Pass Dusk Patrol on 4/17/15 that sort of came out in the low light:

It was good up there today. Took young Owen out to the nipple just west of the pass for a couple laps in his new AT rig. Snow was smooooth. Not gonna last long but it's great right now.

Clouds rolled in and it was snowing lightly when we left around 230.

    Headed back up tomorrow.

    Sonora Pass

Another good day. Warm. Snow was soft earlier today. Clouds rolled in earlier today.

Did some recon: looks well worth walking up Leavitt Lake Road. Gate is shut.

77 at the house and I'm still in my ski socks.

    Edit

And now it's booming to the east of me. Probably rocking and rolling on the pass now.

How long of a walk is it to skinable snow up the road?

Unknown. I just looked at the gate and turned around. Looks fat out there.

I was planning on Sonora tomorrow but I don't think hanging on top of Leavitt during a T-storm is a wise call, so I'm currently planning on Monday or Tuesday next week.

    Sonora Pass

He had fun. I think racing burn out had a lot to do with rotten behavior. We are planning Church of Sonora Pass Backcountry next few Sundays while the snow is good.

Oh and 108 & 4 closed tonight due to snow.

I'm praying the road opens for Monday and/or Tuesday...that's my only window.

This was Saturday 4/18 in the neighborhood. There will still be goods to be got when the road reopens.

    Strong work!

The best part is that I have no idea where this is on the Pass...I usually stick to Leavitt and then the ridges that meander to the Northwest back to the hairpin on 108.

Nice to know mystery still abounds, right? Not that hard to sniff out but sometimes half the fun is in the seeking.

Any word on 108 reopening? If I don't ski there tomorrow, I'll plan on next Tuesday... (:

Keep me posted if you hear any exact timing...I'd much rather ski tomorrow than next Tuesday...obviously.
