    civilian bikes?

Has anyone tried any of the civilian bikes that backcountry is selling now on competitive cyclist, real cyclist, or chainlove? They look pretty nice and I was curious how the quality of frame construction is and where they are made.

I think the http://www.ridecvln.com/bikes/le-roi-le-veut/ would make a great complement to my geared carbon cx machine.

Looks pretty standard. If they aren't saying, that means it's probably fabbed in Taiwan, which isn't a deal breaker. $1k seems a little steep for a factory frame, but not off the walls crazy.

I wouldn't pay $1,000 for a road bike frame. Fuck that shit. It's not like it has suspension. Wouldn't pay that much for a hardtail mountain bike frame, either.
Retail - 50% markup = $500. With another 50% mark up, that says it costs $250 to produce/market/sell. Bullshit.
Even if half of what you spend is spent on marketing is spent on marketing, that's still $125 to produce a mass market road frame.
Yeah, cyclocross, bla bla bla. It's a road frame.

Prolly $50 in parts, labor, and tariffs. Fucking shock on a mountain bike costs more.

Sorry, I've been drinking, but that's fucking ridiculous. The escalating cost of this sport and what keeps getting taken away from it are at total odds.

'Nother reason I hate road bikes, and all these motherfuckers with bike racks and Wilderness plates on their cars.

Maybe I'm just being creaky fossil, right now.

Anyway: $1,000 for that? FUCK NO.

Oh jeez, I'm sorry. That's a complete bike.
Still a lot for a single speed.
My rant still stands for more expensive framesets.

Not only that, the markups aren't anywhere close to 50%, anywhere in the production or sales chain.

If your looking for a steel single speed get a Masi for half that price.

I love my speciale commuter and ride it to work twice a week (12 miles each way). I can also lock it up outside the bar without worry.

Damn dude, lighten up and take some time to educate yourself. I know it may have rained today or maybe the prospect finals handing your ass(judging by your lack of knowledge) to you??

    We should ride sometime?

Reminds me a lot of the QBP house brands - All-City, Civia, Salsa, Surly... Certainly lots of stuff in that category for equal or better $$$.

axebiker, thanks for the insight into qbp. Somehow I'd never put those together before.

I agree, I don't see anything that would tempt me to blow off my LBS.

I'm going to get to take a Young Turk for a spin, probably the beginning of next week. I'll be sure to report back.
