POV VIDEO – Truckin' for Thrills @Telluride - 03/24/12
Music: Jubei ft. Flowdan - 'Say Nothin'
Synopsis:
With a dismal February in Tahoe, and constantly refreshing tahoeweatherdiscussion.com to see if we'll ever get close to a normal snowpack, we clicked the mouse and decided to take another trip to Telluride. Of course, a week prior to the trip, it was 50F temps in Telluride and snowing in Tahoe. As luck would have it, that Tahoe storm tracked to Southern Colorado and it snowed right before our arrival with bluebird skies and warm temps for the entire stay. Palmyra Peak, Dihedral Chutes, Gold Hill, and Black Iron Bowl were all skiing well for the duration of the trip. Definitely one of the best trips to this mining town in recent memory. Stoked!
YOU NOW HAVE SWORD:
After flying from SFO, we are lured by temptation all over DIA…75mph!!!!!!
A perfect day to fly and see the Rockies. Breckenridge below...
South of Aspen area...
Crested Butte anyone?
First morning at Telluride, the Mrs. grabs some groomers....
But then I notice Palmrya is open????
Had to run back to the hotel and grab my gear and then I was on my way...
About halfway up and the masses were descending upon the peak...
A patroller drops in and skis some pow...
Finally made it...
I just wished I knew where to go...heh.
After the first few turns, I guess I'll keep heading skier's right and stay in the shade...
And head to 'Roy Boy'...
That was fun...skied far lookers left and wasn't bored...
Out in the flats I got a nice view of Gold Hill Chutes 9 & 10...
'Rock on'...
I encountered some pow on the way back to the lift...
Picked up the boy from ski school and took a run off chair 4...double green stylee'
The next day I went to Silverton, but on the 3rd day, the boy and I took a few runs before ski school...
The spring temps were definitely setting in on sunny aspects, so I raced NASTAR alone...
The Mrs and I took a few laps in Revelation Bowl which looked much better than it did in early January...
Nice day eh? Tracks in the San Joaquin collie in the background...
Plunging down the Plunge...
After lunch, a little line down some rocks off Gold Hill...
Time for dinner in town!!!!
A nice night indeed...
On my gondola ride back to the hotel, I realized I had too many Dark & Stormy's at the Chop House....
The final day, and another warm up prior to Ski School...he's definitely making big strides this year!
Groomers were the call in the morning, can you spot my turns??????
Did a few hikes up to Dihedral Chutes area before lunch...so good!

The Dihedral zone was avoided by humans for some strange reason...
Yep, my bald spot was sunburned...
The Mrs came home pale and without cancer...
The Palmrya backcountry was looking prime...and all those lines have been hit! SICK!
I found some rocks to fast exits...
...and finally a straightline called my name
The last night of a great trip...
Farewell sun....
Rise up Moon....
Next season????

"The idea wasnt for me, that I would be the only one that would ever do this. My idea was that everybody should be doing this. At the time nobody was, but this was something thats too much fun to pass up." -Briggs

New Mexico looks awesome! do they allow snowboarding there?
The little guy's off his stick. Looks like it was a lot of fun."People think complaining about conditions makes them sound discerning, like giving nitpick notes on a fine dining experience. In reality it's just like saying "i'm a shitty cook." -MildBill

Great report as usual. We were there with the family first full week of February and it was super soft. Not as much open but they opened Gold Hill one on my stepson and I so he got his first mid day rope drop powder shot and was super stoked. We stumbled upon the Revelation lift and I was like 'whats this?' That place skis SO much bigger than it did when I first skied it in the mid/late eighties but still has the same charm and lack of people competing for the good terrain.

Thanks for the stoke, good beer choice.
I don't like being outdoors Smithers, for one thing, there's too many fat children.

Nice one 666, looks like you had a great trip. It still was pretty fun for such a 'bad' year here. Thanks for that reminder
