2011 -12 recap thread
Sadly this is earlier than last year and a total rerun of this year. Was inspired by Aarons' post - thx for aaron
A mid April temperature spike took alpine temps from - 10C to + 10 C in less than 4 hours so pow is pretty much done for the year. Overall an average year with opportunities taken and opportunities missed.
As usual the skiing is in BC; Whistler, the Duffey area, Shames, Rogers Pass, and some Selkirks snow in the Iconoclast-Sorcerer area
Year started off strong with first pow on Nov 19th on Blackcomb

Snow was a bit late coming though so we did some exploring

Then it started snowing more so we got a bit more aggressive

Then it started snowing not just in the alpine but down low so top to bottom 1000m+ runs started coming into play

Toured in the Sorcerer area N of Rogers Pass and lucked out on weather and snow

Some friends from Switzerland came to visit and they basically drowned in pow

(continued) then we took the Swiss to Rogers Pass and it was really deep - about 120cms had fallen the past week so we had 3m+ at valley bottom and double that in the alpine

it went bluebird in the alpine so we went neckdeep

Snow backed off for a week so I went for a glacier ramble

Then it really started dumping snow - first in Shames then back home in Whistler
Shames

Whistler/Duffey

(continued) Like we needed any more it proceeded to puke more snow

The last of the sun and pow before it all went too warm

Just when I'm accepting my wife looking into grad school here (i.e. at least two more years in NYC) you post this, and I start to feel ill. Thanks for the stoke (and the worlds best AT boot reviews).

When I saw the subject of this thread, I thought "too early to recap" but damn, you brought it.
Those pictures are too much. Thx.

Great shots Lee. Thanks. In your Sorcerer report earlier in the year there was a shot of True Nordic summit which showed bare ice. We passed that around here quite a bit since we had skied that in...2002 ..in powder conditions.
The shot of the mushroom (or whatever) above the hut is fantastic! And you say it was only an "average" year? The depths at Icefall seemed fantastic, but maybe it is just always that way!

Excellent pics. It's a bit sad to see the season closing/re-cap thread showing up, but summer activities are starting to look pretty tempting around here even with the solid base we have on the coast.

Everything I want to ski is pretty rain-affected right now. Lots of cornices falling or potentially going to fall- at least overhanging stuff i want to ski. Bergschrunds opening up. I'm heading to UT for 10 days and lets see if we ever get a sunny day by the time I get back

We actually saw you passing early in the trip when we were in the parking lot below Joffre shoulder and yelled but to no avail.
Lots of good pow shots in there. I'll be up skiing big glaciers again in mid May.
The part of the TR that sounded the best was the phrase back home in Whistler. I could get used to that.I can't believe you are a rando racer because I look so much better in Lycra than you.
People who don't think the Earth is flat haven't skied Vail.

Lee, if I wasn't a gimp this season, I would have been there. Hope to see you in Moab.
