POV VIDEO – Salivating Silky Snow @ Silverton Mountain
Music: Amon Tobin – ‘Angel of Theft’
Synopsis:
The 2nd trip to Silverton this season was booked with fingers crossed for good snow. After a week of warm temps, a surprise storm rolled through Tahoe and onward to Southern Colorado leaving almost 2 feet of the white stuff. Upon my arrival, I was greeted with blue skies, great snow, and a great group of guys to take a few heli laps in the sun.
Better yet I was finally able to take a few laps with owner Aaron Brill and ski a few new lines like Scarface, Pequeno uno, and Meatball Hero. I would HIGHLY recommend a day up there if you’ve never been. Props to Aaron for taking us to the goods...safely, and only trying a few times to get me to head with them to AK for the….’last spot.’ Heh.
BEGIN:
We arrive at our first lap and figure out what to do…
The GNAR couloir looking tasty…
A quick run down Dolores provided mostly cold smoke pow, and GeOFF drops in…
The second lap on Riff shows T-dog (our guide) milking his turns…
I enjoyed myself…
FAST and SMOOTH…
This yellow contraption forced us to get on board…
The first lap was to the usual Pyramid area with a nice consistent pitch and mostly bomber snow...
See, I told you…
Our next options were somewhere up near Grande and Pequeno…
Now Aaron is showing us around and trying to find a unique spot to land…
Yep, that’s the LZ….heh.
Aaron knows where’s he’s going right?
GeOFF is from LA, so he’s super creative….
I guess we’ll go across this…
Pequeno uno from the top…
Down Scarface…666 does some avalanche work…
GeOFF makes it look easy..
This run looks decent…
…it was!
The lower section was buttery smooth…and the Jag Sharks were relieved to finally ski pow!
GeOFF makes a descent..
Aaron slithers through a crack when we all make it down safely…
Aaron convinces us for another lap…
Yep….
This time, we head across the valley in a zone called Meatball Hero….nice views of the stuff just hiking distance off the chair…
San Juans etc…looking mean.
The real GNAR lookers left of GNAR couloir…heh
Just a cool place in ColoRADo….
Did I forget to mention Heli-hoodie skiing? Pretty damn cool feeling. Oh, and all that stuff is within their permit for skiing…just charter the heli and go!

Whoa….this guy is from LA!!!!
And he drops in…
Thanks for leaving me so much pow….(sad face)
I guess I’ll go last…
Still good though…
Skiing is actually quite fun…
GeOFF just loves taking all the good snow…
Well, he did pay for it….
I still had some nice turns…no complaints
The line…
Back to the Tiger zones off the front…
It was ok...
Last run of the day!
Time to run back to see the kids at Telluride...

I hear that guy GeOFF blows goats.
There was J, Double J, KJ, JJ, another guy who said 'Just Call Me J', Shaggy, and a guy who called himself Whooshit.

The POV shots give the sense of anticipation and make me want to ski now.
I can't believe you are a rando racer because I look so much better in Lycra than you.
People who don't think the Earth is flat haven't skied Vail.

tasty.
i finally made it out to silverton this year.
we had blizzard conditions with ~50 mph sustained winds,
white outs @ ~100',
sideways snow,
6-18" of windblown pow over heavily sun baked spring snow.
it was awesome.
i still remember our guides initial instructions for our first pitch:
