TR: Teach Your Children Well -Kid Trip
Cayusette had been talking about wanting to do some touring and hiking for turns once the lifts stopped spinning so when the spring soccer schedule came out and she had a free weekend a plan was hatched, with me figuring that if I can get her excited about it then it will be a father/daughter activity and won't catch near the grief from Mrs. Cayuse when I want to go.
We drove from Spokane up to Kellogg Friday night and took advantage of the lifts at Silver Mountain on Saturday then Sunday headed up to Lookout Pass. I had thoughts of doing a couple runs around but for her 12 year old legs the 1300 or so of vertical to the top once was enough and she was only interested in the ski down to the parking lot.
Slogging along a cattrack:
Heading on up:
I made it!:
Lunch at the top:
At the top we spent some time practicing with beacons and showing her how to assemble a probe. While she is too young to be counted on in a companion rescue at this point I want her to know about the gear and learn about the dangers so she goes into this with her eyes open.
Then it was time for the ski down on some nice corn.
It's weird skiing with a pack:
Really weird:
Some lines for another day:
Capped off with some drinks I'd stashed in the snowbank much to her delight and then took her to the 50,000 Silver Dollar Bar so she could see that before heading home.
Looking forward to a couple more local trips with her in the next month and hopefully skiing Chinook Pass over Memorial Day.Last edited by Cayuse; 04-24-2012 at 11:16 AM.

Fantastic. My sone is 1 now, and I so look forward to getting out with him someday. We did some inbounds touring together this year, with him on my chest, and he loved it.
You may want to teach her to put her beacon over her base layer and not outside her coat. Otherwise, she might get beat up on the internet...
Hope to see more pics and stoked posted up in this thread as the spring continues.

With all the snow, Chinook may not be open on Memorial Day, but Crystal should be.
