"Bill Johnson"
Recently a salesman started to tell me how FTs weren't the right boot to match up with the race skis I was coveting. I didn't have it in me to educate the schoolboy.
It isn't necessary to imagine the world ending in fire or ice. There are two other possibilities: one is paperwork, and the other is nostalgia.

At the risk of adding actual content to this thread: Has anyone ever figured out what all the different names for Flexons mean, if anything? The words on the back of the boot can say 9.9, Equipe, Comp, Slalom, and Racing, and sometimes a combo of more than one. Apart from the difference between the real Flexon and the cheesier one with different buckles and such, are there any noticeable differences, or was it all Raichle marketing-speak?
AKrover posted a pic of the cheesy variety of Flexon, recognizable by the thicker and more plasticky buckle straps. Those usually seem to be labeled Comp, although I've also found a picture of "real" Flexons labeled Comp 9.9 Racing, so go figure. My real ones are just 9.9, but I've only had them for a couple years and have no knowledge about BITD.

Raichle's marketing was atrocious and the naming convention was a quagmire.
The OP picture is not a Flexon, but a Flexon Comp. The real distinction is in the shell where the Flexon Comp is much blockier and heavier.
Another easier distinction is that real Flexons had wire cable buckle bails with wire that went all the way through the buckles.

The Flexon Comp, a nightmarish shin chewing mistake, had buckle bails that were partially wire, but the wire part went into a crappy rachet plastic tongue that inserted into the actual buckle:
The Flexon Comp was a clunker.
Anyway, all this stuff is really available online and in particular, pretty well covered in the Full Tilt websites. All you have to do is look. And yes, the cheap liner packed down quicklu, but flexon was on the forefront of super comfortable liners with the thermoflexes.

Thanks. Yeah, I read all the Flexon threads a couple years ago before buying a pair, and there is a lot of good information. I have never touched a pair of the Comps, but looking closely can see that the shell has a different shape/extra stuff on it. There even appears to be a wrap around upper cuff on that pink and yellow pair? Weird.
Oddly the black and green pair of true Flexons above says "Comp 9.9 Racing" on the back, so they weren't even consistent with use of the word "Comp." The ones I have are just labeled "9.9" but seem identical. I haven't seen an obvious physical difference in any of the true Flexons no matter what words they have on the back, but have only skied the one pair. I am a crappy skier, but I like 'em. The heel hold is good.

I'd like to bust AK Rover in his dumbass head with a baseball bat.
Instead of discussing the best ski boots ever, let's discuss bat options.
