Bizarre how Tahoe City can continue to decline.......best location ever and it just hasnt been supporting businesses for awhile now.

Gone are the days of: Naughty Dog, P&P, Humpties (Altitude whatever), Pierce Street. Only P&P now, right?

How can that happen, I just dont get it.

yeah, it is almost like the only people who own at Tahoe anymore are multi-millionaires who go up 1 week out of the year!!!

Because there aren't many decent places to stay, it's shitty for walking, the traffic sucks, and it's relatively far from where the ski house people stay?

Loss to TC, although I always figured that the messed up parking at peak times made it hard for people to casually drop in to Porters compared to Dave's which is relatively easy. 2 of the best ski stores (3 if you count 9 lives) gone in a few years. How healthy is Alpenglow?

Referring to what? Inventory? Pretty much every shop works on MAP pricing and prices are uniform across the states. The last place I remember prices being high was down in Mammoth. Never once saw it at Porters, in fact they were usually on sale sooner than others. Unless you're referring to Labor, which I can't speak to.

That sucks, hadn't heard about 9 Lives. Alpenglow, not sure. Might be safe considering they have pretty solid customer loyalty and a somewhat different business model.

Talking to a friend who has a shop in the area, he said they sold their stuff too cheap to make it work without the high volume the season didn't bring. Maybe exorbitant rent and seasonal dead time? I often wonder how anyone makes it in TC.

The consignment store has been revived at NUTS in the Cobblestone mall but I don't know if they bought out 9 lives on the way.

Tahoe City simply and desperately needs a new anchor for local business. Whether a resort type hotel or something else needs to be developed. As it stands now, I don't know how any business -retail or otherwise- is able to make a go of it there anymore.
